Venue change that came to my attention only last week:

Harrogate Pythons, members of Yorkshire Four, are now playing at the Army Foundation College (HG3 2SE), on the west side of town, not far south of the A59 Harrogate-Skipton road. Pythons were left homeless when the Harrogate club quit Claro Road at the end of the 2014-15 season and declined to accommodate them at Rudding Lane. Looking at Pythons' website, it appears they issue - most unusual for level 10!

Anyone wishing to tick Kingston Park (for rugby union) at a bargain price should note National League Two North club Tynedale expect to stage at least two more fixtures at Newcastle Falcons' ground. Tyne's own ground and clubhouse, at Corbridge, were wrecked by the December floods. The programme for yesterday's 40-34 defeat by Broadstreet contained the following in the 'welcome' section:

"Through the generosity of Newcastle Falcons, we will be playing our next three 'home' games at Kingston Park. Kick-off is 3.30pm this week v Broadstreet; 3pm next week (27th) v Luctonians and again 3pm on 19th March v Stourbridge.

"We remain determined to return to Corbridge before the season is out and intend to make it quite an occasion when we do.

"The insurers' decision to withdraw storm and flood cover against future loss is also hampering reinstatement of the clubhouse. Plans for 'flood proofing' are under review and further details will follow."

Yorkshire Carnegie take on Aviva Premiership side Bath Rugby in a pre-season friendly at Ilkley RUFC on Saturday 13th August, kick off 6pm.

The match will form a double bill of rugby action at the picturesque Stacks Field ground (Denton Road, LS29 0BZ) with Ilkley playing earlier in the day against Blackburn RUFC, kick off 1:30pm, as part of a full day of fun at the club.

Gates open at 12:30pm and tickets can only be purchased on match day (cash only on arrival). Tickets are priced £10 for adults, senior citizens and students, and are FREE for all juniors and students under the age of 18.

For any hoppers just wishing to attend the Bath game in the evening there are plenty of afternoon double opportunities in football and rugby league with Guiseley v Dagenham & Redbridge, Harrogate Town v Altrincham or Farsley Celtic v Colwyn Bay at 3pm and numerous National Conference League fixtures in the Leeds area plus York Acorn which kick off at 2:30pm.

The British & Irish Cup gets underway this weekend and, as usual for this competition, Yorkshire Carnegie are using different venues around the county away from Headingley:

Saturday 22nd October vs Bedford - 1430 @ Selby RUFC
Sunday 11th December vs Newport Gwent Dragons Premiership Select - 1400 @ Pontefract RUFC
Saturday 21st January vs Ealing - 1400 @ Scarborough RUFC

The return visit to Gwent Dragons is being played at the Centre of Sporting Excellence, Ystrad Mynach on Saturday 17th December (1500). I believe this is next to the football ground where Risca United and Aberbargoed Buds play.

According to RFU, NCA and BBC Sport websites London Irish v Canterbury on Saturday 22nd October is an evening kick off at 7:15pm, presumably at Hazlewood training ground. Can't confirm this as both clubs list all of their matches as 3pm KO's on their websites.

Irish's 1st XV are home to Connacht A in British & Irish Cup the same afternoon so I'm wondering if both matches are being played at the same venue as a double header, be it Hazlewood or the Mad Stad?

Possible Rugby Union double on Saturday 26th November:

1415 - Wellington v Sidmouth - Western Counties West

1630 - Taunton Titans v Henley Hawks - National League 2 South

Presumably the late kick off at Taunton is so fans can watch England v Argentina before coming out of the bar to watch their own game.

Easy double on offer at New/Old Anniesland, in Glasgow's West End, on Saturday (5/11):

Glasgow Academicals v Orkney (BT National League, Division Three), 11.30am kick-off. I presume the early start is to facilitate the visitors' post-match return to the back of beyond. Then over the road for GHK v Preston Lodge (BT National League, Division Two), 3pm kick-off.

That Glasgow Academicals game was postponed due to major issues with weather and ferries in Orkney.

Double opportunities with 1200 Kick-Off's on Saturday 19th November:

Welsh Premiership:
Bargoed v Bedwas
Carmarthen Quins v Pontypridd
Llandovery v Merthyr
RGC 1404 v Cardiff

English Championship:
London Welsh v Bedford Blues
(Would advise avoiding Twickenham afterwards unless England v Fiji is your destination)

Kendal's new ground, which features a 4G pitch, will be ready for the start of the 2017-18 season. Its first game is likely to be on September 10, when Kendal Ladies Wasps face Manchester Ladies. The opening men's first XV fixture should be on September 16, when Rossendale visit in the rebranded North Premier league. The new ground, like the old, will be called Mint Bridge. Postcode is LA9 6NY.

Harrogate Pythons, of Yorkshire Three, will play next season's home matches at Station View, the ground of NCEL outfit Harrogate Railway Athletic FC. The sharing arrangement starts on July 1. Doesn't sound like great news for Railway's pitch, which invariably is in a poor state. Pythons (who issue, if anyone's interested) have spent the last two seasons at the Army Foundation College, a basic set-up three miles west of the town centre. The first competitive game at Station View (in Starbeck rather than Harrogate) should be on September 9, when Leyburn-based Wensleydale are the visitors.

Yorkshire Carnegie will once again be playing their home matches in the group stages of this season's British & Irish Cup on the road:

Sunday 22nd October vs London Scottish @ Ilkley RUFC (1500)
Saturday 9th December vs Dragons Premiership Select XV @ Huddersfield YMCA (1330)
Saturday 20th January vs Jersey @ Scarborough RUFC (1400)

Tickets for all of the above games are £10 (£5 concessions) if bought in advance or £12 (£6 concessions) on gate, FREE for under 16's.

I'm delighted by that game at Ilkley as it gives me something to combine with my planned trip to Murrayfield for Hearts v St Johnstone on the SaturdayCool.

Drove past a couple of weeks ago and it looks a terrific facility. The stand and clubouse complex looks great and has some character.

With my daughter now playing for Preston Grasshoppers girls we'll make a point of heading there on the 30th for the opening game.

Orrell have switched Saturday's (16/12) South Lancs/Cheshire Two game with Liverpool Collegiate to Winstanley College, Billinge, usual venue (as far as I can tell) of the club's second XV fixtures. Reason not explained. There doesn't appear to be a plastic pitch at Winstanley College.

Cheapest tickets (in the Gallowgate End) are a tenner. Ticket sales have passed 18,000, guaranteeing a record attendance for a Falcons home match. St Agnes v Camborne SoM has disappeared from the RFU fixture list with no new date. Saltash presumably couldn't play again just two days after their RFU Senior Vase semi final win. Gordano will have had three days rest before their match at Imperial as their 55-7 win over Minehead Barbarians was played on Good Friday and switched at the last minute to Hornets 3G as their own ground was waterlogged.

On Saturday 2nd June Bodmin RFC is hosting the Tribute Cornwall Clubs Cup Finals Day, a competition for level 9 and 10 clubs not to be confused with the main county cup for higher league sides. There are four separate competitions usually played between the top four and bottom four teams each in Cornwall 1 and Cornwall 2. The Semi-Finals were played over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend although some of those resulted in walkovers, the host club failed to make it to the main cup final losing to Newquay in the Semi's. The line-up according to Bodmin's Pitchero site is:

1100 - Perranporth v Redruth Albany - Shield Final
1130 - Stithians v Lankelly-Fowey - Vase Final
1400 - Illogan Park v St Agnes - Plate Final
1500 - (main event) Newquay Hornets v Liskeard-Looe - Clubs Cup Final.

This differs slightly to Trelawny's Army website which says Stithians are playing Redruth Albany and makes no mention of the 11am final. Presumably two different pitches will be used. Admission charge for the day is £5, doesn't say if a programme will be issued. Ground is just off the A30/A38 junction.

Trophies and medals will be presented after each game by Cornwall RFU president Mr Peter James.

Saturday 1st September:

Championship - Ealing Trailfinders v London Irish (1915)

Late kick-off allows plenty of scope for a double with football in the afternoon and, unlike on a Sunday when London Broncos play, you can get there on the West Ealing to Greenford Railway line which passes the ground, nearest station Castle Bar Park.

A reminder that Anselmians, newly promoted to North One West, are spending 2018-19 at Rivacre Park, Vauxhall Sports & Social Club, while their Malone Field ground at Eastham receives a multi-million pound makeover. The first competitive game at their temporary home is on September 1, when Northwich provide the opposition. By coincidence, the teams meet at Northwich on Saturday (25/8) in a Cheshire Cup first round tie. Anselmians have played two warm-up games at Rivacre Park, against Mold and Liverpool Collegiate.

Are they using the main ground or outside pitch at Rivacre Park? From memory, when I visited Vauxhall Motors FC in 2000, there was another railed off pitch next to the main ground.

I'll pass on that. I went to Rivacre Park for the football in 2001, and remember very little about it, partly because it was an evening fixture at the end of October. There are pics, on the Anselmians website and Twitter account, of the Mold friendly, including one of rugby sticks in front of football goalposts (below). Doesn't look much like the main pitch. If I bother with Anselmians this season (the drive from York is a PITA), I'll email the club to find out exactly where they are playing. When I visited Malone Field at the end of last season, one of the coaches mentioned an outside pitch at Vauxhall S&SC but it was all a bit vague. I got the impression nothing had been finalised.

Is this the back pitch?

http://www.anselmiansrufc.com/...-begins-2335968.html

Judging from a website piece about sponsorship, Anselmians will continue to issue programmes.

Yes that is the pitch outside the main stadium. More a front pitch than a back pitch, adjacent to Rivacre Road.

Two late kick-off's in National League 2 South next Saturday 20th October offering potential double opportunities:

1700 - London Irish Wild Geese v Redruth
1930 - Guernsey v Birmingham Solihull

Wild Geese offers a tight double with a few 3pm football matches including Met Police v Havant & Waterlooville in FA Cup, Combined Counties matches at Hanworth Villa and Walton & Hersham or NPL in Surrey Elite Intermediate League. Earlier starts in the lower Surrey Leagues or AFA make for easier doubles. Nearest 3pm rugby matches are Esher v Rotherham (National League 1); Twickenham v Farnham (London 2 South West); Teddington v Andover (London 3 South West, ground next to NPL).

A treble is possible on Guernsey on the Saturday, the only two Priaulx League football matches that day are UCF Sylvans v Manzur (1400) and St Martins v Northerners (1700). Guernsey FC, who play in the same stadium as the rugby club, are home to Hastings United on the Sunday (1400).

Two matches in Scotland this Saturday 3rd November kicking off at 1pm:

Premiership - Melrose v Hawick
National League 1 - Kelso v Dundee HSFP

The former can be doubled with 3pm football - Gala Fairydean v University of Stirling in the Lowland League. Melrose and Galashiels just 4 miles apart.

All rugby matches in Scotland on Saturday 10th November kicking off at 1230 allowing plenty of scope for doubles with 3pm football.

The new Championship Cup gets underway this weekend and Yorkshire Carnegie are playing their first two home games on the road, unusually for them both on a Saturday:

10th November vs Nottingham - 1300 @ Laund Hill, Huddersfield YMCA
24th November vs Doncaster - 1200 @ Brantingham Park, Hull Ionians RUFC

A tight double may be possible with the former, should be plenty of double opportunities with the latter.

We'Re doing West v Orkney before Scotland v South Africa this Saturday. We were toying with Edinburgh Academical at 2 pm but this is rather easier from a point of view of using the park and ride for Murrayfield as it tends to be full around 2 hours before KO.

Fancy Preston Lodge versus Highland (fourth against second in National League Two) on Saturday, myself. 1pm start. Not bothered about Murrayfield. Did it for a Hearts-Schalke European football game a number of years ago. No reason to go back!

Number one daughter is a big Scotland RU fan so we've had tickets for this and the Fiji game last Saturday for months. To be fair the prices are good and parking and access relatively straightforward if you use the park and ride from Ingliston. The noon start in Milngavie will fit in really nicely.

Next door, Preston Athletic FC are home to Craigroyston in East of Scotland League Conference C kicking off at 2:30pm. With a five minute half time and minimal injury time in the rugby you might just make the start of the football!

Saturday 23rd February:

Two 1200 kick-offs in Wales making for possible doubles with football at 1430:
Premiership - Bedwas v Neath
Championship - Cardiff Met v Newbridge

In Scotland, a treble is possible with football in between
1130 - Murrayfield Wanderers v Caithness - National League 3
1935 - Edinburgh v Cardiff Blues - Pro 14

Also in Scotland,
1300 - Dumfries Saints v Preston Lodge - National League 2
On map it looks near enough to Palmerston Park to double with Queen of the South v Alloa at 3pm.

When checking on Welsh rugby union matches it is best to cross-check All Wales Sport with the new fixtures page on the WRU website.
As I write there are different dates being given for fixtures. Don't trust the clubs websites for information as their fixture list is controlled by the WRU.

I always find the All Wales Sport site far more reliable than the WRU fixtures pages. They don't mention those phantom Sunday games which clearly wouldn't get played the day after those clubs were involved in national cup ties.

Scotland's new semi-professional Super 6 Rugby, which will feature teams based at Ayr, Boroughmuir, Heriot's, Melrose, Stirling and Watsonians, will stage one game each weekend with a 2pm Sunday kick off for online tv coverage. They don't get underway until the second weekend of November after the conclusion of the rugby world cup, and that first weekend is one of three that also feature a Friday evening fixture.

A full fixture list can be found in the news section of the Scottish Rugby website (sorry, my browser doesn't allow me to create hyperlinks).

Thanks for that. Ayrshire Bulls are home the first Sunday of the season and I need to visit Millbrae before they move. See if this link works:

Re: [cherryhopper] One for the Rugby Union Hoppers [In reply to] Can't Post or

You wouldn't know it from The Rugby Paper - which on Sunday carried no fixtures for the start of the English and Welsh seasons (results from the Scottish Cups being already beyond my wildest dreams) - but there are some non-standard kick-offs in Wales this week.
On Friday night there is Bridgend v Aberavon (1930) and Cardiff v Pontypridd (1905), and on Saturday Ebbw Vale v Newport is at 1730. Two of these would seem to suggest TV times for this season, but no further amendments are showing on the WRU fixtures page as yet, apart from a couple of Newport switches to Sunday.
Bedwas v Cross Keys is on Sunday this week, as mentioned elsewhere, and a pair of derbies have been confirmed for their customary Friday dates further ahead. North Petherton v Bridgwater & Albion on November 22nd, and the return on March 20th.

I suspect those at The Rugby Paper are struggling to get to grips with the dreadful new RFU Fixtures sitePirate. When clicking on the South West 1 West page and peering through the tiny window beneath the menu bar which blocks half the screen I discovered three additional Friday fixtures to the North Petherton and Bridgwater derbies:
8th November:
Keynsham v Cleve
North Petherton v Sidmouth
28th February:
Cleve v Keynsham

There is a further ammendment in the Welsh Premiership this Sunday 8th September:
RGC v Merthyr (1430). Part of a double header at Parc Erias with the Under 18's taking on Scarlets at 1pm on the adjacent 4G.

Saturday 5th October (1415)
Corsham v Devizes - Southern Counties South

For those looking to go off-piste from the Western League hop, this looks to be the only other game, rugby or football, doable before the 1645 game at Devizes as all other matches in the area kick off at 3pm.

Not the case. There are at least four Somerset FA Senior Cup ties (at Clutton, Timsbury, Stockwood Green and Frome Collegians) kicking off at 2pm which should just be in reach of Devizes.

The European Champions Cup and Challenge Cup begins next weekend and offers a potential treble in Wales after your chosen rugby or football match in the afternoon if you can hotfoot from the Liberty Stadium to Parc y Scarlets in about half an hour:

16th November:
1730 Ospreys v Munster - Champions Cup
2000 Scarlets v London Irish - Challenge Cup

Ospreys v Racing 92 on 7th December also kicks off at 5:30pm while all Scarlets home games in the Challenge Cup kick off at 8pm on a Saturday, the other two being 14th December vs Bayonne and 11th January vs Toulon.

Cardiff Blues' first two home games in the Challenge Cup are also both 8pm on a Saturday - 23rd November vs Leicester and 7th December vs Pau.

Saturday 30th November
London 2 South West (L7)
Eastleigh v Battersea Ironsides

Re-arranged league fixture which may be of interest to those heading to the Eastleigh v Crewe Alexandra FA Cup tie at 5:30pm. Usual home ground is Bishopstoke Lane, opposite Chicken Hall Lane where former Hampshire Leaguers Bishopstoke FC used to play, but last Saturday's match vs Chobham was switched to Wide Lane, opposite Southampton Parkway station, due to the state of their own pitch. Kick off could be either 2pm or 2:30pm, check out their facebook page nearer the date.

Also within reach of Eastleigh v Crewe Alex:

Dorset & Wilts Junior Vase Semi-Final (1400)
Christchurch v Westbury
Home Ground East Christchurch Sports & Social Club, Grange Road (just off A35/A337 roundabout) BH23 4JD.

This is Christchurch's first season since reforming and this competition the only opportunity to test themselves against first team opposition - Westbury top of Dorset & Wilts 2 North while Christchurch play in Dorset & Wilts 3 East with 2nd, 3rd & 4th XV's.
