Merthyr Town sell a range of Rhymney Beers in bottles in the Candac Bar which includes Bevans, Rhymney Export, Rhymney Bittter and Rhymney Dark.

They've also got Sheppy's Cider available which although not local they sell in honour of their team manager.

As a CAMRA member I always take note of this;

off the top of my head:

Shortwood ALWAYS have real ales on
Marlow
Forest Green
Laverstock and Ford (though it was only F*****S)
Bemerton Heath (Localale)
Flackwell Heath
Christchurch

(I have repeated clubs noted above as this probably confirms its a regular thing)

You will see its common in the Wessex. Sadly most of these are out in the sticks though (maybe thats a factor)

Falkland CC, home of berkshire Minor Counties CRICKET, is an erstwhile GBG entrant and has 3 real ale , one local!

Failry sure when I went to Long Wittenham (N.Berks) midweek late last season, they had some Abingdon's 'Loose Cannon' on; in o' they polypin box things under the bar - chap connected it up for me since I asked and it was ok - suspect they were having a 'local' do and got it in specially for the following Sat - probably for an England match or summat. Would imagine most of the N.Berks clubs with 'secret' clubhouses sometimes stock similar - ie Harwell Village's has West Berks.
(not that I profess to knowing the first thing about Real Ale or t'otherwise - usually drink Draught Guiness in my local Angelic) - agreed Rebellion is nice - have it when visiting Marlow or Flackwell/Beaconsfield etc few varieties available too.

Street or Hengrove/Odd Down, I think had a decent local brew on too (forgotten the name sorry Blush brewed somewhere south/west of Brizzle I think and I probably noted it in the WDYG threads).

EDIT looked it up - Butcombe - brewed in Wrington out beyond the airport.

Godalming Town also stock bottled beer from the local Hogs Back Brewery. T.E.A and HOP are on sale in the clubhouse.

Horsham (or rather Horsham YMCA I suppose) had 4 different bottled ales from the Hepworth Brewery on sale yesterday; 3 priced at 3 and one at 3.50. Chose the expensive one with good and bad results. Vintage Noel by name and 10 out of 10 for quaffability. At 7.5% ABV it was not too bright of me to down a swift couple at half time. Regretting it now but won't tomorrow and definitely didn't whilst partaking.

It probably happens elsewhere but it is the first time I have seen them selling beer gift packs at a football ground (3 bottles in presentation pack for 7.)

That's useful to know as I'm due there for a midweek fixture next month. I normally drink the Leathern Bottle next to the ground, which has TEA on handpump, but if the club are making an effort I'll drink there instead.

Burgess Hill Town have been serving Hophead beers but was missing on my last visit. We (Whyteleafe) went through a spell of offering numerous different but remarkably similar Butcombe ales but have settled back to London Pride frankly because it is more popular.

If that's the Dark Star Hophead, that stuff is just wonderful. Regularly sells out in no time at all at a village pub not far from me that's in the GBG.

Not non-league but it's worth noting that at the new Brighton ground they're serving locally-brewed Harvey's straight from the cask.

They're not the only club to see the light. My blog '300 Grounds & Counting' is dedicated to discovering which stadia offers cask ale or craft bottled beer (oh and veggie food as well...)

Gillingham Town (Western)

Clubhouse had two real on, hardly local though

One was Doom Bore (rumoured soon to be available in Starbucks), the other was Tribute. I didnt partake as I had just been to a nearby GBG tick, but ws told it was very well presented!

As someone who believes in spending a few quid in the home clubs clubhouse rather than a pub, I have been encouraged this season to find more clubs stocking real ale, if not on tap, then in bottles.

Even better, Windsor the other Monday and then Marlow on Saturday sold beers from their local brewery. More and more independent brewers are now springing up so I think it would be excellent if clubs made the effort to stock their local produce. It certainly ticks off two boxes at the same time for me on my travels and can mean that even a poor game can be salvaged by the trying of a new beer.

Surely it's easier to stock bottles than sell and upkeep (or not on may occasions) pumps if there isn't the demand?

Which clubs do you know who stock local independent beers, and can anyone involved at a club suggest that their club give it a go?

Cheers

I know Wingate & Finchley were doing bottled Bishops Finger, as well as a few other specialities. I am going tonight so will revert back with an up to date list.

Bielsa ringing...

Leeds games are my priority but will go anywhere to not be home on a Saturday (Jeff Stelling or the BT version drive me out not my wife and kids).

Mention goes to two of my local teams. Three visits to Horley Town have yielded a Westerham and Kissingate beer on gravity behind the upstairs bar (my second game there was no real ale) and two visits to Crawley Down have seen St. Austell Tribute, Sharps Doombar and Harveys Bitter on handpump. The last two were on last Saturday at the Merstham game.

I want cider, though I'd imagine that I'd have to go west for that. Best I have found is at Forest Green (GL Cider) and Berkhamsted (Thatchers Gold)

Two more grounds I've done of late with local ales

Lewes had Sussex Bitter and Old Bitter from Harvey's

Hitchin Town stocked Highwayman and Twitchell from Royston's Buntingford Brewery.

Both grounds right up there in my favourite lists anyway, but the beers were the icing on the cake.

Downton has a hand pump for the the Downton Brewery a mile away. They rotate between 'Quadhop' and 'New Forest Ale' during the season. Downton also has a hand pump for Ringwood Brewery.
