From the Channel 5 highlights of the first day of the day/night test between England and Windies:

England were 108/2 at lunch, which was 106 off the bat and 2 extras

We were told 22 boundaries had been hit [all 4s] and only 16 "other" runs.

Which by my calcs leaves a couple missing.

Perhaps one of the boundaries was a 6.

Onscreen it said 22 4s & 0 6s

A similar thing happened with the official statistics in a tennis match I saw on TV.
The set finished 6.1 and the stats showed the winning player winning 27 points to 20. As you have to win two more points than your opponent to win a game, this would have meant + 12 for the winner of the set, minus a maximum of 4 points. So the differential in points would have to be at least 8.

On Channel 5's Goal Rush last Saturday Nick Halling, narrating the 1-1 draw between MK Dons and Oxford United, said the goal Dons scored was their first ever against Oxford - obviously not counting any of the goals they scored against the U's in their previous guise as WimbledonTongue.

I think, instead of "obviously" it would have been better to have put "quite rightly".

The same prog has now reported MK Dons first ever goal and victory against Plymouth.

Any more for any more?

During the Channel 5 League Cup highlights it was said that if Everton weren't to lose however many consecutive games it would have been, then they would have to end their goal drought.

But if Everton had won on penalties after a 0-0 draw ...

BBC TV sports reporter Natalie Pirks, waffling for all she's worth outside Windsor Park ahead of the Northern Ireland-Germany World Cup qualifier: "Michael O'Neill says Germany are the best side in the world, but that could be an understatement." Eh? There's nothing better than the best.

Maybe she thinks Germany could be the best team in the universe?

During the England game, I am sure I heard the commentators say, at least twice that Northern Ireland needed a point to come second in their group
In fact, they had already secured second place

They said on the Channel 5 highlights prog that Newport were having their best start to a Football League season since 1982

Which was before they were formed

Whoever was commentating on Lithuania v England said England's team had an average age of "exactly, just over 24"

Which isn't very precise

Think I’ve just heard Phil Neville say...

”Every manager in Spain thinks he’s a taxi-driver because he knows so much about football.”

It’s more likely every Spanish taxi-driver thinks they’re a football manager. But whatever.

Ollie Foster, waffling pitchside for BBC News at Five ahead of Hyde United's FA Cup tie with MK Dons, hands back to Salford-based studio presenter Lizzie Greenwood-Hughes, who says: "For those who don't know, Hyde is north of Manchester." It's east of Manchester, actually, something I'd have expected a journalist who works on the far side of the city to know. Honestly, if it's outside the M25, the BBC hasn't got a clue.

When the Hyde v MK Dons FA Cup game kicked off, the BBC commentator said it was the start of the FA Cup first round weekend.

Hyde was a 7:55 ko. The ties at Port Vale and Notts County kicked off at 7:45

Not exactly a sporting mistake, but also from Hyde v MK Dons.

Martin Keown said Hyde's players would be back in their jobs tomorrow, Saturday, when Hyde would normally have a game. This would also no doubt be news to those Hyde players who work Monday to Friday.

Couple from the BBC's FA Cup prog on Sunday.

Gateshead were said to have reached the quarter finals in the 1950s, despite having been founded in 1977. But they did distinguish between Herefords old and new when reporting the tie against Telford.

And Leyton Orient were said to be playing their first ever FA Cup tie as a non-league side, despite having played in the competition before joining the FL in 1905.

Was Billericay's ground really just like a public park until this season?

The bloke doing the commentary on BT Sports seems to think so.

He's in his element, with not just one but two non-league teams to patronise.
