Re: [cherryhopper] Obituaries and Remembrances - Other Sports or Reply Privately

Former Canterbury, Rye House and Hackney speedway rider Ted 'Hurricane' Hubbard has died at 70. He had liver cancer.

Lydden-born Hubbard's racing career spanned the 60s, 70s and 80s. After retirement, during which he ran a wholesale potato farming business in his native Kent, he had a spell as team manager of Sittingbourne, then based at Iwade.

Hubbard's career highlights include making the National League Riders' Championship rostrum in 1974, 1976 and 1979. He rode in the British League (Division One) while with Hackney and was National League (Division Two) Canterbury's No 1.

He leaves a widow, Jeannette, two children, four grandchildren and a great-grandson.
