Wealdstone have taken over the Grosvenor Vale site and will be playing there next season.
They didn't push Ruislip out, just think they couldn't afford the rent Wealdstone were wanting.

Yipee - so if all goes well I WILL have another reason to get to BG's ground at Avenue Pk - assuming it is the same one as Viking used to use?

As posted elsewhere re Bedfont Green's ground 'acquisition' , I could have gone last yr when Neasden F. were lodgers but they folded before I managed it. Unsure

Why have they added Brent FC to their name? Is it a merger with a junior club? Ruislip is quite a long way from Brent.

There was a Brent FC playing in the LSL in the 80's, I never saw them play a home game and am not sure where they played, but I did see them play in a Kent Senior Cup tie at Kent Police in 84-85, which suggests that they were based in SE London. Unlikely to have any connedction with this Brent.

I wonder if Wealdstone will play at Grosvenor Vale permanently?

Not sure if it can be a merger - the only Brent I can find is in the London AFA and they are in the provisional Constitution for 08/09 season - playing in Intermediate West.

... here's their entry on the AFA site

http://www.amateurfootballcombination.co.uk/WestClubs/brent.htm

... then again, if the Ruislip M news is more current, then things may have changed?

Or it could just be a 'cosmetic' name change to appeal to a wider community of fans and not involving the existing Brent club at all ?

A bit like when Hampton added the "& Richmond Borough" part to their name!

Yes but Hampton are in the borough of Richmond, whereas the borough of Brent is round Wembley so nowhere near Ruislip.

And I believe (though I could be wrong), the Western Avenue Ground is in Ealing, isn't it?

I think there was a bit more to it than that as last season started with Ruislip owning the gound and wealdstones reserves sharing the ground.

Avenue Park is actually at Greenford which is neither Ruislip or Brent Crazy

Another new name for the club (taken from the official site forum)

The outcome of yesterday meeting subject to Middlesex FA Approval the club’s name will be “Tokyngton & Ruislip Manor FC”.

Just done a google and found this

Tokyngton is in eastern Wembley, south of the Chiltern Railway line.

I have to say that Tokyngton is an area of London I have never heard of before.

Re: [Russell] Ruislip Manor name change and move [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

It is certainly an obscure name to come up with - did a search and found its origins in Ecclesiastical Parish Boundaries - 'created' in 1933.

... here's some more background from the Brent Heritage site.

http://www.brent-heritage.co.uk/tokyngton.htm

... could end up like that thread last season we when started a very erudite discussion about the origins of 'Lammas' in the Staines club of that name!

It's another one for the "how to pronounce?" thread. I know the club secretary referred to in the original post is struggling with it!
