West Cheshire League 2019-20 Can't Post or Reply Privately

Although a full constitution is yet to surface, various pieces of information concerning next season's make-up have emerged on league social media accounts in recent days.

Divisions One and Two shall each feature sixteen sides, whereas Division Three shall host fifteen. Amongst these shall be eight new entries.

Six are familiar names from the past:

Aintree Villa Reserves (re-formed)
Bootle Reserves (re-formed)
Helsby (re-entry, from Chester and Wirral League)
Marine Reserves (re-formed)
Poulton Victoria (re-formed)
Willaston (re-formed)

Whereas two are making their very first appearances:

Pensby (new)
Rainford United (from Wigan and District League)

Pensby share no connection with the defunct FC Pensby.

Still haven't seen the constitutions after this week's AGM but the following clubs have tweeted their status for next season:

Pensby and FC Bootle St Edmunds accepted into Div 3

Mersey Royal and Poulton Royal, 3rd and 4th placed finishers in Div 3, have been promoted to Div 2.

Wirral SB have folded in recent weeks, presumably opening up the vacancy in Division Two which Poulton Royal have filled. On an unrelated note, there is some talk on Twitter of Page Celtic mounting an "appeal". No indication is given as to what the situation here actually is. They finished as champions of Division Two last season, so whether these events might influence their placing next season remains to be seen.
FC Bootle St Edmunds have played for a number of years in the Merseyside Christian League.

As mentioned briefly in the "Step 7 Constitutions" thread, the Page Celtic appeal is a consequence of the FA's decision to promote them into the Liverpool County Premier League rather than West Cheshire Division One. Not knowing any precedents, I couldn't say whether or not they have a chance of success. Geographically they fall square within LCPL territory (Huyton), but we all know that there is more to it than that. Presumably the FA are concerned about the decline of the LCPL (13 clubs at Step 7 last season), so are looking to shore it up by whatever means they can.

As mentioned a couple of days back in an alternative thread, Page Celtic must play their Step 7 football in the Liverpool County Premier League. The club announced earlier today that they will accept the FA's call (presumably the only alternative would have been to decline promotion).

Understandably, having only left the LCPL in 2017, they are not best pleased with how things have panned out. In addition, a number of the Liverpool-based sides playing in the WCL are concerned that they might be next to be given the push. Notable amongst these are Aintree Villa, Cheshire Lines and South Sefton Borough - each of whom shall be looking to drive next season for Step 7. Whether eligible clubs already playing in the WCL top flight will be liable for transfer appears to be another matter. What is certain, however, is that none of them would welcome the move.

It is interesting to see that the overwhelming majority of clubs commenting on the matter online were apparently unaware of the FA's authority to decide constitutions at Step 7. Presumably there had been a communication breakdown somewhere along the way. Intriguingly, there is further talk of the decision being politically motivated - a product of Liverpool County FA lobbying aimed at reasserting their control over clubs playing within their boundaries (bolstering their ailing league) whilst simultaneously striking out against the Cheshire FA. Knowing absolutely nothing of football politics, I cannot possibly comment. The FA itself apparently explained their position with reference to geography - which in the case of Page Celtic would certainly seem sensible.

Hale have withdrawn from Division One. Full-time is yet to be updated, but it is pretty safe to say that their record shall be expunged.
