In fairness to NLP their results are supplied by the Press Association and the same errors occurred in the other Sunday papers.
Have you noticed that step 6 leagues only get covered if they are not second divisions of step 5 leagues? So EMCLgets covered but NCEL1 doesnt

Agreed with this Gordon, its really frustrating how the top divisions of the Midland Combination and West Midlands Leagues will get covered yet nothing for Northern 2, NWCL 1 and NCEL 1!

I dont want to say the exact story but I had to explain to the NLP last week that there were two teams in Aylesbury: FC and United.

Funny, I didn't realise Aylesbury United were in AylesburyTongue

Hmm, I'm a Northerner living there and to be truthful it ain't my argument. This has been done to death suffice to say there are spiritually two clubs in the town.

Are there?Wink We Woods have just played Utd at Leighton in the FA Cup in front of no more than 120 spectators. The majority of those were one of Woods fans, neutrals or family, wives & girlfriends. I'm afraid The Ducks seem well down that long slope of decline.

With incorrect league tables and fictitious FA Cup scores - yep, the quality hasn't changed by the sound of it.

Newspaper makes error shock horror Unsure

If only it were error.....but multiple ones, some repeated? I haven't bought it for years because of such sloppiness.

I noticed that "Sad Hopper" had attended a game at West Didsbury & Chorlton. Then mentioned that they finished 7th in the Lancashire League last season. The Manchester League would like that!!!Sly

Last Sundays Non League Paper, among the incorrect cup scores, contained a glorious misprint. I quote from the Phoenix Sports v Lancing match report on page 33 "The second came a minute into the second half when Jack Berry found Danny Youngs, whose powerful shit took a slight deflection and flew in" Now that would have been worth seeing.

They are a bit behind the times if still featuring the Midland Combination, that league effectively folded in 2014!Laugh

Just read the snippets from the Bostik North.
It tells us about Felixstowe’s equalisers yesterday.
First one was evidently fired home, in actual fact it was a header from 3 yards.
2nd one was also “fired “ home, in fact our striker missed an open goal but fortunately it hit a defender and trickled over the line for an own goal, I don’t expect them to know that, before those that transmit these things found out it was an own goal, the info was on its way to FWP and the Bostik league.
Now I don’t expect them to know how all goals were scored, but why just make it up. There are plenty of ways to say we drew level, why not fill the sentence by saying restored parity, equalised, got back on terms etc etc without just making up something.
No doubt they would call it journalistic license, I prefer to call it bulls**t.

The match reports come from the home club. You don't expect them to send a reporter to every non league game surely? They can only print the report they are given.

And things are not going to get any better, especially regarding Welsh scores and reports.
The major Agency supplying these details has just gone bust. There is no back-up Agency.

Wink
I noticed the x-x thought it was a new abbreviation for a postponed or abandoned games until unread the reports. Good job none of them were for teams i follow. They need to sort it out, never seen so many errors in the paper before

Last week the NLP had the Barrow squad with eleven players I'd never heard of - don't know what team they were. The previous week Barrow had an astonishing card count for the actual number of games and the current form list included teams that had been promoted to the FL a couple of seasons ago. Pretty poor for the money really.

i also could not see the fans letters page, has that now disappeared, used to enjoy reading it. The paper needs to buck its ideas up. I appreciate sometimes they can be sent duff info by clubs themselves but headlines in welsh and xx for scores is there doing

Likewise, although I think I gave up before then. If I want to be fed a load of inaccuracies and patronising drivel I would watch the live parliament broadcasts.
The difference being the inaccuracies in the NLP are down to incompetence other than deliberate. (I think!)

Re: [Bigaitch] Non League Paper [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

I still buy the NLP each week, but pretty much only for the results and league tables which, by and large, are accurate. Fixtures i get from websites.

I will read reports on any matches that I've attended and for my local sides.

I read the letters page when it appears, although if this is the best correspondence they get it's doesn't reflect well on us. Some of it is puerile.

There is rarely any news which hasn't been on this site first.

I understand the sycophancy of the NLP to the National League...it's supporters are the most potential buyers of the paper... but there is so much more they could cover.

Much like most local newspapers, i don't believe the NLP employs reporters as such. They have people who write articles based on press releases and may make a phone call or two to verify stuff. This fills the paper but for folk who keep abreast of what's happening anyway, it's all old news. The editor has changed recently and this may have something to do with the current problems.

But it's been going 20 years so they must be doing something right. If the results service deteriorated though, I would have to have a rethink.
