Tried a double and it worked ..
Bristol Rovers U18’s 1-3 Portsmouth U18’s (EFL Youth Alliance, South West)
- played at UAE’s Hillside Gardens, Bristol from 1.30pm
Att – around 50; Entry - none, Prog – None.
Weather – nice sunny day
Travel – 2 hours over to Bristol .. the site sits adjacent the M32, just off the M4.
Colours – blue and white quarters for the Gas .. all black for Pompey
Nice set up .. couple of all-weather pitches for rugby and football . this game played on back grass pitch, with no furniture, apart from one dugout (the other lay on its side as you entered), all not helped by numerous trucks passing and off-loading final top soils for landscaping. Didn’t pop inside the main building, plenty of parking and easy to find off the ring road.
.. and division leaders of the South West controlled this one throughout, scoring early and two up after 25’ .. Gas replied on the half hour but Pompey claimed a third late on .. all goals very much over the top and dispatched .. the visitors much bigger and stronger since last seeing them in March and hopefully will continue their good form, as now the only undefeated team after their six games played .. Mrs hh will be happy.
.. then it was back down the M4 and left at Swindon to find,
Kidlington U17’s 0-7 Hemel Hempstead U18’s (FA Youth Cup, Prelim Round)
- played at Yarnton Road, Kidlington from 7.30pm
Att – officially 17, but counted nearer 40; Entry - £4, Prog – None, cuppa for £1
Weather – cooling and calm, with sun out until sunset
Travel – over from Bristol, in on A420 and A34 .. back home in ninety or so minutes
Colours – the Greens in all green with white flash to shoulders, .. Tudors in all red
No changes to ground .. Clubhouse quiet, turnstile entrance tucked around corner down the bottom car park, tea hatch doing the basics, no additions to the two covered terracing areas and the seated main stand .. pitch in much better condition since last visit, when seeing the Reserves a couple of seasons back.
Kidlington gave it everything but age and skills eventually told .. 3 up at the half and three late goals flattered Hemel's scoreline .. but with posts hit twice, misses a plenty for the visitors and any host shot stopped by the Hemel keeper .. this one was comfortable .. with the next round hopefully not clashing with other fixtures and allowing me a visit to Wokingham and Emmbrook in a couple of week’s time.
Grounds = 618, Leagues done = 15 (37 to go); Games (19/20) = 76; New Grounds (19/20) = 62; Goals (19/20) = 337; Ave goals/game = 4.43; Last new ground = Hants FA at Winklebury, Basingstoke; Next = Thurs 17th Oct 2019

Bristol Rovers 1 Portsmouth 3 (EFL U18 Youth Alliance) Att: 31 h/c f&n
Rendezvous with Gashead Malc for this one: the first game for the young Pirates at the new grass pitch at UWE's Hillside Gardens. It can be found beyond the 3Gs, and is a work in progress, with only one dugut in place and the other awaiting erection. Nothing else to see but pleasant enough, except for the noise from th adjoining M32. The game was rather good for this sort of thing, with both teams going for it and Rovers wasting lots of chances before the visitors sealed victory just before the final whistle.
