Spennymoor Town postponements Can't Post or Reply Privately

Any idea why their first 2 home games have been postponed. They're being very coy on their Twitter feed.

Their website had an article a week or two ago explaining the postponement of the Blyth game. As kk says, it's to do with the work they've done to the pitch.

Major pitch works. Old Pitch dug up immediately last season finished, new drainage installed and a new pitch laid.

Takes time to bed in.

The League were asked to arrange first 4 games away from home to allow pitch time to bed in. for some reason league did not do so.

Blyth game last night was rearranged by consent for a midweek next month.

Its not clear why Boston game took so long to be postponed. Logic would have been to reverse fixtures so Spennymoor host Boston on a Saturday at end of season and Boston hosted Spennymoor this Saturday.

There are suggestions (not confirmed) that Boston refused this as they did not want 6 of last 9 games away from home.

There are also suggestions that alternative venues of Gateshead or Harrogate were vetoed by either League or Boston.

Result is game postponed on Saturday and its likely Boston will have to travel up on a midweek now.

Its all a bit of a mess and clouded in half truths. not sure why neither club have said exactly what is going on. All the secrecy does is add to rumours.

Given the extensive work done on the pitch ( and the significant number of postponements in last couple of seasons), one would have expected the league to be supportive of a side taking substantive action to rectify the problem. The relatively short close season did not permit the work to be completed in the close season.

The Premier League for example allowed Liverpool to play initial games away a couple of seasons ago because of the building of the Main Stand. West Ham were treated similarly when the athletics meant their ground had not been reconverted. Therefore its surprising the National League didn't accede to the request

Ironically, we have also done some major work (for the first time in a decade) and the Midland League scheduled us away for our first 3 league fixtures by request. With fewer real pitches around nowadays and the fact that grass is by far more enjoyable, there should be more support given to clubs trying to improve their facility.
