From fixtures on full time, it appears the vacancy in division 2 went to Stonehouse Town (reserves)

A chat with the Charlton Rovers manager today revealed that progress on the new ground at Shipton Oliffe is slow and Rovers will be at Badsey for another season.

Why are Bishops Cleeve Reserves asked to fill the vacancy in Div 2? Where did they finish in the Cheltenham League last season? Also, where did Stonehouse Town (who eventually filled the vacancy) come up/down from?

Only know that Stonehouse Town Res finished 5th in the top division of the Stroud & District League in 2018-19.

Stonehouse actually finished 6th last season. I wonder why the GNSL did not ask Tredworth Tigers, Hardwicke Reserves, or Randwick (who finished 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively in the Stroud and District League last season) to take the spare GNSL place? Bishops Cleeve have so many teams that it makes it hard to keep up. I think their set up is:
  • First team - Hellenic Premier
  • Reserves ("Development") - Withdrew from Gloucestershire County League and entered Division 2 West, Hellenic League
  • A Team (Third Team) - Cheltenham League, Division 1
  • Development Reserves - Cheltenham League, Division 5

There doesn't appear to be a Bishops Cleeve side in Hellenic Division 2 West.

Bishops Cleeve Development withdrew from Hellenic 2 before last season and replaced the "Development reserves" as in Cheltenham Division 4. The A team are now the reserves in all but name. They only run 3 mens sides.

Many thanks for this. Much appreciated.Gosh - isn't that a huge drop for their Development team? Hellenic Div 2 is technically "Step 7" (even though it does not have official status as a Step 7 league). Going from Hellenic Div 2 to Cheltenham League Div 4 is a drop of 7 divisions! Cheltenham League Div 4 is technically Step 13. Will they not be too good for that level? (which consists primarily of reserve, development, and third teams)

Something many clubs struggle with that run a development side where the first team play at a much higher level is the lack of opportunities to promote dev players to the first team. Going from Bishops Cleeve dev to their first team would be a pretty remarkable jump.

The withdrawal of Bishops Cleeve's Development team from Hellenic and "Demotion" to Cheltenham League division 4 will make it hard for their players to "climb the ladder" to the first team. Right now their teams are too many divisions apart (firsts at Step 5, A Team at Step 10, and Development team at Step 13!
