Birmingham City - Proposed 9 points deduction Can't Post or Reply Privately

Word is that Birmingham are about to suffer a nine point deduction by the EFL for breaching profitability and sustainability rules.

Now, would a Premier League club ever suffer such a penalty for breach of rules?!

I think not.

If there was such a PL rule, then possibly.

(Note the deduction would probably be less than 9 points, the reason is that the PL season is 38 games, the EFL one is 46 games)

Anyway for what has been, at best, a mid-table second tier club over the last few seasons, a 37million loss over one season is staggering.

EFL clubs know the rules, which are agreed by the club owners at their annual summer jolly to Portugal, so Birmingham City can't complain when they fall foul of these rules.

Both Blues and Villa fined 5k for failure to control players.

Birmingham City without nine point deduction - would be in Championship next season
Birmingham City with nine point deduction - should be in Championship next season

It does put them back into contention for relegation from a position of virtual safety. A bad run of form to finish the season and they could go down.
