I do like the formula used in some German play-offs betterIn those cases, the second and third matches are reversed if "winner A" also wins match 1 - ensuring no completely dead rubber

What is the plan if all three games are 0-0 draws, or (perhaps more likely) if all three are won 1-0 by the home team?

Each game, if drawn, has a penalty shoot out for a bonus point. Same as the Scottish League Cup. Still doen't help if all three games are identical score draws and each teams wins one shoot out.

Do any of the conference winners have the necessary license for promotion?

If not how will this affect the lowland league

1) Not yet, they might have by the m idle of the week.

2) LL have said they will admit Play Off winners provided they have a licence by June

Following the conclusion of:

Winner A v Winner C
Winner B v Winner A
Winner C v Winner B

and the victor gaining promotion to the Lowland League, how will the construction of the new East of Scotland Premier League evolve? The two losers of the above plus places 2-6 of each of the three conferences?

No one knows. Or if they do they aren't telling.

No one knows if 15th place Whitehill Welfare will be relegated to the EoS. No one knows if they will be able to apply for re-election or will bother applying for re-election (they have no lights and would get better crowds and face less travelling in the EoS rather than the LL.

The 16th LL place vacated by Selkirk has to be filled.

None of the EoS championship contenders are licensed though they have all applied. The SFA moved the goalposts, with the requirement that licensed clubs must have lights and LL clubs must be licensed. - Bonnyrigg don't have lights, but are erecting them. But then again the SFA may offer a dispensation.

The SFA appears to be dragging its feet on licensing - many member clubs are probably terrified of an influx of far better ex-Junior clubs.

Berwick's relegation and/or EK's promotion may have knock on effects.

These are some of the known unknowns, there may be unknown unknowns too.

Re: [PaulC] East of Scotland League - championship play-off fixtures [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Interesting non-developments, as it were. I thought I read, circa 12 months ago, the 3 x Conference division set up would be a one-season only arrangement for the EOSL with the top-placed sides in each forming a Premier Division and the lower-ranked finishers forming a First Division.

When I watched a game at Bo'ness United a couple of months ago, some fans I spoke with seemed certain they would be in a new Premier Division set up next season and were hoping this would bring some decent crowds back to home games. The claim was this one-off Conference set up this season had seen a drop-off in attendances and that playing, for example, Linlithgow Rose, in the Premier Division would increase crowds a fair amount.

I imagine the likes of Eyemouth United would want to play in a First Division arrangement rather than being beaten heavily week-in, week-out by clearly much stronger sides.

Additionally, I was told there could be more Junior sides wishing to make the jump across into the EOSL and would join in a new First Division as there would be a clear, pyramid path up to the Premier and maybe Lowland League for the more ambitious clubs. I suspect some clubs didn't make the leap as the pyramid was still being constructed and the number of clubs leaving Junior to 'non-league' wasn't quite at tipping point until very late on a year or so ago.

Anyhow, it's a fascinating future for lower-level football across central and southern Scotland, providing a very strong platform for clubs who wish to gradually make their way up the pyramid and to also breathe life into SFL Division 2.

Yes, Boíness will be in the new EoSL Premier Division next season. We can be pretty certain of that.

I canít think of any reason why finishers in positions 2-5 in this seasonís three Conferences will not be in the new EoS Premier next season ... other than perhaps Linlithgow, as a licensed club, being elected to the LL.

So Hill of Beath, Newtongrange, Musselburgh, Dunbar, Dundonald, Tranent, Boíness, Crossgates, Jeanfield, Camelon, Blackburn will fill 11 of the 16 places.

What happens in the LL will also affect EoS membership next season.

If Berwick and EK swap places, or neither are promoted/relegated, then I would expect 3 of the 5 below to be in the EoS Premier. That would mean 2 places for this seasonís three sixth place sides

If Berwick were relegated and EK were not promoted then 4 of the 5 below are likely to be in the EoS Premier next season. This would mean one place available for the three sixth place sides.

Linlithgow, Whitehill, Penicuik, Bonnyrigg, Broxburn

The sixth place teams are Leith, Sauchie and Preston. I donít know what provision has been made for ranking them.

One off, and itís worth noting that in the event of a drawn game a bonus point is available for a win on penalty kicks.

If all three games haver exactly the same outcome, Bonnyriogg win due to them having the best record in the 3 Conferences.

Do they still bother with the third game if Penicuik win the second?

That's why, in the 3 team group stage of the Spain 1982 World Cup, it was stated that (although there was a provisional schedule) the 2nd game would be between the losers of the 1st game and the 3rd team in the group. If the 1st game was a draw then the games would be played as provisionally scheduled.

I'm not surprised: can't see any other promotion than Bonnyrigg now. And if Whitehill Welfare get reprieved there'll be the archetypal local derbies to come. Rosewell's only about a mile down the A6094. Splendid gate too. Beats half the Scottish League regularly......

Mind you Penicuik are pretty close too.

Can we confirm scenarios if Broxburn win final game.
My guesses are
  1. Rose win if they do not lose
  2. Broxburn win if they win by two goals, or a single goal at 3-2 or higher
  3. Penicuk win if Broxburn win 1-0
  4. I am not certain what happens if Broxburn win 2-1

If Broxburn 2-1 Bonnyrigg then

1 All 3 level on points
2 All 3 level on GD
3 Broxburn and Penicuik ahead of Bonnyrigg on goals scored
4 Penicuik champions by beating Broxburn head-to-head.
5 Maybe
