Pretty in Pink Can't Post or Reply Privately

Random topic

Having just seen the Champions League highlight I saw Barcelona donning a pink kit, something fairly unusual.

How many non-league or even league teams currently have or have previously had a pink kit?

I can think of Dulwich Hamlet but not many others.

Slough Town had a pink kit as a one off to raise money for breast cancer, with the shirts being sold after the match. Which lead to a bit of comedy as they didn't know who or how big the person buying the shirt would be so had all the players wearing extra large shirts. Watching our winger Steve Sinclair playing in a shirt bigger than he was gave us all a chuckle.

Portsmouth FC wore salmon-pink coloured shirts from their formation in 1898 until 1909, while playing in the Southern League, before changing to blue and white.

A little more recently, during their lacklustre 1987~88 season in the old First Division, Pompey re-introduced the salmon-pink shirt as that season's away kit. There was a bit of fuss about it at the start of the season, but in the end it was rarely used. I went to at least a dozen away matches that season, but can only remember personally seeing it used once, in the 1-1 draw v. West Ham at Upton Park in February 1988. (There were another six clubs playing in predominantly blue shirts that season, so it presumably got some airings that I wasn't at, though Pompey also had an all-white changed shirt they were using at the same time, too).

Another point of interest about that kit: the 87~88 season was also the very first time Pompey had a shirt sponsor - South Coast Fiat. It's a concept that the club seemed very slow to grasp - after relegation at the end of that season, they soon scrapped the idea of shirt sponsorship and were possibly the only league club without a shirt sponsor during the following 88~89 season (though I'm happy to be corrected on that).

I believe Highgate United (MFL) are wearing an all pink change strip this season.

Juventus had an all pink away kit, which they wore at home once in a televised game.
Palermo also play in pink.

Remember seeing Millbrook play in a pale pink/black striped top once in the old SWL. Someone washing the strip put a red towel in by mistake Sly and white was a tad pink tinged

Next game I saw them in, they’d got a new strip

A few years ago Bristol Rovers had a pink change kit. It was something to do with a cancer charity. I believe that they first used it at Shrewsbury.

I remember Everton introducing a salmon pink away kit around 1990, it was the first one I'd ever seen. I think it was stripey?

Lichfield city Casuals from Staffs Division 2 play in a type of dark pink.... a very strange colour.

I wasn't expecting them to rock up in pink at ours. Seemed a bit of an odd choice for a red-clad team.

I was expecting them to be in either white or blue, maybe yellow, but not pink.

I once saw Didcot Town play in a kit of red shirts with pink sleeves. I'm going to guess that there was a very similar reason behind that 'colour change', too! Tongue

Everton didn't introduce a pink kit, they wore pink when the club was formed so the pink away kit was a link to it's past.

Gillingham had a Pink and Blue 3rd kit made by Vandanel in 2011/12 and 2013/14.

"The Beast" Adebayo Akinfenwa looked great in it!

Ok then, re-introduced.

1882-84 they had a pink and white "quartered" top, 1886-87 was pink with white sleeves, and 1890-91 was a plain pink top. 1891-92 saw more of a cerise colour.

All others since 1879, excepting the black of 1881-82, have been primarily blue with the odd blue and white in the early days

This season Manchester United & Queens Park Rangers have Pink as their second strip.
At Rangers our away performances have greatly improved (at least up to now!) & has sold better than any other away strip has for years!

AFC Bournemouth wore a pink 3rd kit in their first Premier League season. Manchester United wore that second strip at Bournemouth last Saturday. It's a very pale pink and more noticeable in the flesh, on TV it almost looks is if they are wearing white.

We had a pink away top for 2014/15 Season, think it was something to do with a campaign for breast cancer where we linked up with St Teresa's Hospice in Darlington.
