Was this a cup competition or a league?

The London Professional Midweek League started in 1929-30. I'm not sure how long it ran for but know that it was until 1933-34 as Arsenal fielded a team in it during those seasons.

Thank you for the information. It is very helpful.I have a medal for the London Mid-Week Cup competition with a hallmark for 1930 so I assume it was presented in season 1930/31.From the information you have given I am hoping that the London Professional Midweek League also had a knockout cup competition but I have been unable to find out any information on either competition to be honest.Do you have a list of participants in the League in order that I could make further enquiries ?

The hallmark will only tell you it cannot be before a certain date
Often batches, say three seasons, were run off at once

There was also a London Midweek Cup specifically for midweek teams, although descriptions vary between "Cup" and "Shield".

I have it traced to at least 1928/29, after which "Wimbledon Wednesday" no longer appear to be part of the main club and their results are not reported locally. The London F.A. should be able to help further with this competition.

From an old copy of the London F.A. website;

Midweek football was very popular with workers and therefore a London Midweek Cup began in 1907 and lasted until 2001 when the constantly shrinking pool of clubs rendered the competition unviable.
