Bogey teams and lousy records Can't Post or Reply Privately

Fleetwood Town's visit to Oxford United this afternoon was the ninth time the two sides have met in the league.

In those nine matches, Fleetwood's record is..

Won 8, drawn 1, lost 0

They have won all five visits they have made to the Kassam Stadium.

Any other pairing with such an unbalanced record of league results?

As we tend to be aware, when the TV commentator says not won a match against x since 1964, this often refers to only two or three meetings.

Meanwhile, the record between Cheltenham Town and Exeter City deserves a mention. Six wins for Exeter, Nine for Cheltenham and one draw may not seem special.

But look at it like this, we first met on Boxing Day 1999, when Cheltenham won 3-1. The meeting on Boxing Day 2013 was the 9th clash, and the record then stood at Cheltenham 9 wins, Exeter nil. The return match in April saw Exeter garner their first point from the clash

Move on a year, and (again on Boxing Day), Exeter beat Cheltenham, they now have six consecutive wins

I think the one that is commonly trotted out is QPRs record at Nottingham Forest, played 33 games at Forest and they have never won.

Mansfield Town vs Accrington Stanley since Stanley entered FL in 2006 in league games is

At home won nil draw 2 and lost 5
Away won nil draw 2 and lost five 5

So only 4 draws and 10 loses in 7 seasons.

However last night in League Cup the result was a 6-1 Stags Win. Only other win was a 1-0 Fa Cup win in 2006.

Yes, but remember you always have that 7-5 win from 1982 in the bank! Kerry Dixon scored 4 for my lot in that game.

In 4 consecutive home league games that season the scores were
Rovers 6 Exeter 1
Rovers 7 Reading 5
Rovers 3 Wigan 6
Rovers 4 Brentford 4

Then the TV cameras turned up from the regional news and it ended Rovers 1 Wrexham 1

Looking through my record of Watford matches unsurprisingly our worst records are against the traditional big clubs.

Everton:

Played 26
Won 4
Draw 4
Lost 19

In fact our recent record against them is good which has helped this stat!

Liverpool

P 30
W 5
D 4
L 21

Again we've had a couple of wins in recent times which helps.

Spurs:

P 31
W 6
D 4
L 21

Man Utd

P 28
W 5
D 5
L 18

Honorable mention to West Ham:

P 45
W 11
D 8
L 28

Pts per game for all the above is under 1.

On the flip side our record against these is much better!

Crewe:

P 30
W 20
D 3
L 7

Scunthorpe:

P 24
W 15
D 4
L 5

Darlington (old)

P 15
W 8
D 5
L 2

Rochdale

P 15
W 9
D 3
L 3

Bristol Rovers

P 90
W 48
D 16
L 26

Newport

P 72
W 36
D 16
L 20

Rotherham

P 25
W 12
D 7
L 6

Gillingham

P 89
W 39
D 26
L 24

Oxford

P 38
W 17
D 14
L 7

Also never lost to Cheltenham or Wycombe in 6 matches against each. Granted we're not much of bogey side for many teams.

As a neutral I have seen Watford beat both Everton and West Ham! The Everton game was Watford's first game in Division.

I believe that Chesterfield have never won at Bristol Rovers in the league. Indeed Chesterfield had never won at Bristol City in the league either until 2005.

Given how Chessie are currently nosediving through the National League it doesn't look like they'll be improving on those records anytime soon.

Just now they'd really like to experience the novelty of beating someone at the Proact Stadium, never mind anywhere else Unsure

Listening to Spireites on Radio Sheffield's "Praise or Grumble" football phone in, it feels like the Samaritans should set up a base there.

Fulham have never won a league game at Goodison Park. Did however win in the FA Cup in 1975 on the road to Wembley.
In the previous 13 season spell in the Premier League ALL 13 league matches at Goodison were won by Everton. Guess where we are playing this weekend Mad

Was at the Goodison game for the 2011/12 season. Looked so much like a foregone conclusion that when we earnt a penalty in the 7th minute, the Gwladys started calling for Tony Hibbert to take it, before (jokingly) booing Nikica Jelavic when he stepped up and scored.

A very good record to report...

Southend United's 1-0 win against Oxford United was their seventh consecutive Boxing Day victory, with five of them being away from home...

2018 - Oxford United 0-1 Southend United
2017 - Southend United 3-1 Charlton Athletic
2016 - Southend United 3-0 AFC Wimbledon
2015 - Colchester United 0-2 Southend United
2014 - Cambridge United 0-1 Southend United
2013 - AFC Wimbledon 0-1 Southend United
2012 - Dagenham & Redbridge 0-3 Southend United

In fact, due to an abandonment in 2011 and a postponement in 2010, you have to go back to 2009 to find the last time that Southend United lost on Boxing Day...

2011 - Aldershot Town A-A Southend United
2010 - did not play
2009 - Southend United 1-2 Colchester United

For Chatham Town, it's our good friends from just up the road in Sittingbourne. Or rather, from a field in the absolute middle of nowhere which is nearer to Sittingbourne than it is to Ashford. But only just.

In the last twenty league meetings, there have been six draws and fourteen wins for Sittingbourne. We did win an Isthmian League Cup game a few years ago, but it was reserve teams on both sides and it scarcely counts.

Ipswich Town's defeat at Accrington Stanley is the ninth consecutive FA Cup 3rd Round that they have lost...

2019 - Accrington Stanley 1-0 Ipswich Town
2018 - Ipswich Town 0-1 Sheffield United
2017 - Lincoln City 1-0 Ipswich Town (replay, after 2-2)
2016 - Portsmouth 2-1 Ipswich Town (replay, after 2-2)
2015 - Ipswich Town 0-1 Southampton (replay, after 1-1)
2014 - Preston North End 3-2 Ipswich Town (replay, after 1-1)
2013 - Aston Villa 2-1 Ipswich Town
2012 - Hull City 3-1 Ipswich Town
2011 - Chelsea 7-0 Ipswich Town

The last time Ipswich won in the FA Cup 3rd round was away at Blackpool in 2010.

Banbury had 4 draws and 11 defeats in their 15 Southern League visits to Cambridge City at Milton Road and Histon between 1969 and 2015. Their first (and only) away win was in 16-17 when City were playing at St Ives.

Almost as bad was Bedford away (both grounds): D4 L8 from 1968 until winning in 2010. Three more defeats since...
