The EFL fixtures for next season have been released today...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44376097

...with the first match being Reading v. Derby Country on Friday 3rd August. A Nottingham Forest-supporting mate has reportedly slapped an unhealthily generous wad on Frank Lampard to be the first sacking of the season, which probably means Derby will get off to a flyer. Other Championship telly matches that weekend appear to be Sheffield United v. Swansea City on Saturday evening, Leeds United v. Stoke City on Sunday afternoon, and Hull City v. Aston Villa on Monday night.

Further down the pecking-order in League One, the best opening day matches look like being Sunderland v. Charlton Athletic, Coventry City v. Scunthorpe United, and Portsmouth v. Luton Town...

...and in League Two, Oldham Athletic v. MKDons and Swindon Town v. Macclesfield Town.

Deeper into the season, I'll be looking forward to Portsmouth v. Oxford United at Fratton Park on Saturday 18th August, and the return at the Kassam on Saturday 19th January (just 213 mouth-watering days to go! Cool)

Doncaster Rovers, obviously the best team in England, begin with a long trip to Southend along with parents taking their kids to the seaside for the day/weekend/week. Further into the season consecutive games against Sunderland, Coventry City and Charlton Athletic, two of which are away in nice big, and probably half empty, stadiums. Christmas see both festive games away at Fleetwood and Gillingham, too cold for a paddle in the water on those trips.

Looking forward to Stevenage away. Not often you hear that. Wink

Four years ago, after relegation to League 2, the first look at the new fixtures was a sobering experience. A year later, after storming through the division (..the wrong way), the release of the new fixtures simply induced despair. Same each year since....until today. Cool
