Not sure why Stocksbridge Park Steels development were relegated to Division Two when they finished 5th bottom (notionally), while Sheffield Bankers regain their Division One status having withdrawn during the last season.

Unless SPS asked for relegation.

I remember Boynton Sports tweeting late last season that 4 teams would be promoted from Division Two, so S.Bankers 'reserves' - who finished 5th - obviously take the 4th {Manor Hotel's} promotion place, and become S.Bankers 'firsts' for 2018/19.

Gleaned so far...

Jubilee Sports - according to lass behind bar at the last game of the season, they are playing at Claywheels Lane this season

Boynton Sports - heard they were moving to a grass pitch at St George's Park (Westfield)

New Bohemians - contrary to some chatter that they were on the move, they have confirmed they will be at Forge Valley School for the coming season

United Worksop - Manton Sports Ground in Worksop I believe?

Wombwell Town - play at Wombwell Recreation Ground on Station Road, which I think may be the ground that Wombwell Town / SA used to play at in the NCE / CMFL days?

Ardsley Athletico - not a scooby...

Grimethorpe Sports - rumoured to be looking for a new base but demise of Shaw Lane may have changed that?

Sheffield Union - Norton Playing Fields on Warminster Road

Which pretty much answers the question why some clubs want to play in the Central Midlnads

That there is a degree of stability and standard of grounds in the CML that is much higher
There are one or two which are basic but at the majority you feel you are at a club and a ground not a pitch and a team
I have noted your comments on results between the two leagues and am not in a position to challenge the opinion the CML may be a lower standard on the field and you back your contention up with well researched statistics, although any county cup results have to be taken as at best a guide, depending on the importance clubs attach to them. However in the CML, some take a gate, most have a clubhouse. I will leave it to others to indicate the fact there are programmes and their possible importance or otherwise
Simply not all step 7 leagues are the same. The Senior league is what it should be, i.e a good standard of football serving it's local area and nothing wrong with that, but it does not have clubs entering the vase or giving the impression they could move up. I think the fact many look around at the end of the season for a base for the next year is the reason for my initial comment. I would guess it has many more promoted clubs over the years and that is ongoing
Please do not feel I am criticising the Senior League, the grounds I have visited can occasionally be good and the football certainly so

Five South Yorks teams in the CMFL -

  • Askern - Probably still a Step 6 ground
  • AFC Bentley - Stand and railing but no lights
  • Dinnington Town - Might pass for Step 6
  • Phoenix - Very basic, no stand or lights
  • Thorne Colliery - Decent stand and railings but no lights
All in all, not a great deal to shout home about, especially when there are clubs in the S&HCSL that have just as good facilties (Dodworth MW, Grimethorpe Sports, North Gawber Colliery, Oughtibridge WM, Swinton Athletic)

And even if there was a disparity in the ground standards, there wouldn't be if those five clubs went into the S&HCSL.

Imagine a S&HCSL Prem of -
  1. Askern
  2. AFC Bentley
  3. Denaby United
  4. Dinnington Town
  5. Dodworth Miners Welfare
  6. Frecheville/Davy
  7. Grimethorpe Sports
  8. High Green Villa
  9. Jubilee Sports
  10. North Gawber Colliery
  11. Oughtibridge War Memorial
  12. Phoenix
  13. Swinton Athletic
  14. Thorne Colliery
  15. Wombwell Main
There would be some very good grounds and clubs in there - those five CML clubs would retain those games against each other and have less travelling.

If I was Thorne Colliery, I'd rather travel to Swinton Athletic, Dodworth MW and Denaby United than Collingham, Tideswell and Lincoln MR.

Hopefully the FA will take this account in next season's Step 7 constitutions, but tbh I don't think they even know anything about it at Wembley.

The issue seems to be however that the actual Thorne Colliery presumably disagree with you, and it would probably make more sense for the FA to take their wishes into account, rather than yours.

Plus Thorne Colliery come under the West Riding FA and take part in their Cup competitions

Put those 5 teams into the County Senior Premier Division and 3 of them will be relegated at the first time of asking! The other 2 will follow them a season later. Sly
The CMFL may have the better grounds, but the SCSL has by far the better teams - county/district FA cup clashes between the two League's member clubs continually prove this.

Ardsley Athletico could be based at Ardsley Park, the old ground of Ardsley Albion of the old South Yorkshire Amateur League. They also played some games at a park in Worsbrough Dale.

There is also the point that the 5 CMFL clubs cannot be relegated from Step 7, whereas teams in th S&HCSL Prem can.

For anyone that gives a monkeys...

Ardsley Athletico will be playing at Netherwood ALC which is one of these new fangled school / academy facilities. Looking on Google Maps it looks like a caged 4G and it's quite literally behind the Wombwell Recreation Ground that Wombwell Town will be using.

I can sleep at night now

That’s what they called themselves last season on Twitter, but presumably they hadn’t made the name change official with the FA.
