Two week break Can't Post or Reply Privately

It’s just been announced by the F.A. Premier league & EFL. That from season 2019/20, there will be a 2 week break in February.

I would describ it as a ‘rolling break’ with 10 teams missing one weekend and the other 10 missing the next one. Of course, no real difference for a team that goes out of the FA Cup in the 3rd or 4th round.

Anything that potentially gets a few more watching non league football on the odd Saturday sounds good to me.

A winter break when the weather starts to get milder... hmmmm. How long before a manager complains that they lost in the first knock-out phase of the CL due to lack of match fitness because of the Winter break?

Lets hope that 200,000+ of fans that don't have a game to watch those weekends go to a non-league game instead.

For the avoidance of doubt, this break only applies to the Premier League. All divisions of the Football League will continue uninterrupted.

You might jest, but a premier league team that goes out at the third round stage of the FA cup might well end up playing only one game in a four week period.

They’ll actually need a pre-season to prepare for the re-start!

Top sides will probably see this as an opportunity to play a lucrative friendly in the Far East or the USA.

So, the FA Cup is de-valued by making the 5th round mid-week when all that had to be done was to reduce the PL to 18 teams!

Why did they have to do either? The only change that is needed is to play a normal pattern of matches over the festive period instead of the manic one currently used.

Every season managers complain about the number of games played over the festive period and no one listens to a word they are saying so I doubt it will ever change.

Or start the PL season a week earlier.

Or start the PL season a week earlier.

Then players might be ones complaining having to start training with clubs earlier having been away on international duty in WC/EC years.

It must be difficult having to play football while earning £100,000's per week and having to start work a week early but then having to take a winter break halfway through the season. The week early start would mean one week less of friendlies in the far east.

The Football League use to start the second Saturday of August but since the formation of the PL this is now a week later for the PL.

With a Winter World Cup in 2022, probably November/December how will a Winter break in February help anyone?

I have just read somewhere that the two week break won't be used by clubs to play lucrative friendlies, I also thought I saw a pig fly by my window.
