I still don't see much of a problem with reserve or similar teams moving up through the pyramid if they get there on merit (i.e. not plonked in Step 5 by whim of the FALC). I probably watch more games involving reserves/lower teams than not these days and I can't think of one instance of it being a problem.

Let's throw this out there. Suppose Truro City want to re-start their reserve team, and use it for developing players for their Conference South team. Where should they aim for in the pyramid? Playing Step 7 isn't going to prepare players for Step 2 football very well, is it?

Things are different down there i know. If it were London we were talking about the answer is play other reserves of Step 1-3 clubs.
Not an option in Truro. I assume its the same reason that you have a Plymouth Argyle side in your league.
Different parts of the country have their own requirements.

Rule 7.2

Still says no reserves allowed to enter step 5 but reserves already at step 5 can stay but if relegated can not come back.
But surely there are not any reserves sides left at step 5?
Pointless rule or have i over looked someone.

Just a quick question . . .

Whereabouts can we find the FA regulations for the forthcoming season. I have generally gone here
http://www.thefa.com/...s-of-the-association
to consult the various rules. And at the moment, there rules are relevant to the season just finished, rather than the forthcoming season.

Have you got access to the new rules?

The rules for 2018/19 are on the SCE website so presumable they have been issued to all the leagues.

With players able to register with two different clubs is it possible for clubs who want their reserves to play at a reasonable level within the pyramid to agree to register all their players with a completely different club in the next town and allow those not required for first team duty to play for that team on a regular basis?

Yes, it does get into the same territory as reserve teams and it could become a fine line differentiating between the substance of the two types of arrangement. Although I've assumed the FA has rules in place to preserve the integrity of competition re reserve teams in the pyramid, I don't know what those rules say or whether/how they differ from the rules re dual registrations.

Thanks for that. Lot to plough through but plenty of food for thought.

The regulations say very little about the Cup or Vase other than the number of rounds, in the cup, and the round dates.

Presumably the exemption procedures remain the same?

Not sure if I've read this right, but...

A maximum of 38 clubs will be promoted from Step 7 to Step 6, yet there are 45 (if I counted correctly) Step 7 divisions. Is that correct? In theory some sides could win their division, be eligible be promotion, and not go up due to PPG?

Yes thats what it says.
So 19 step 6 divisions. Each receive two promoted from step 7.
They probably think that they will not even get 38 never mind 45.

I know I'm not alone on this forum that is disappointed at how much of the pyramid is now promotion/relegation by spreadsheet. I've been doing my spreadsheet as a hobby to help out fellow Ware fans for seven seasons due our recent battle with relegation and reprieves. Now it's steps 3 to 7 that are affected by PPG and it's just not right.

I’m glad the F.A. have actually moved a few clubs around at step 7. They haven’t made mass changes(which weren’t needed), but have made a few sensible ones. Lincoln Moorlands for example! They may not be overly happy with the forced move. But I bet if they apply for promotion this season, they’ll almost certainly get there wish in the LL.
