Re: [cope1] Windrush generation [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

I'm surprised how ignorant, or incredibly badly briefed, Amber Rudd appeared to be about the workings of the Home Office.

Her denial that the Department was working towards meeting targets always seemed strange, given that most organisations try to set themselves targets in order to meet the goals they are aiming for.

There was always going to be "collateral damage" to legal immigrants such as the Windrush generation, when the overwhelming political imperative was to demonstrate success in dealing with illegal immigration and the resources available to do so were being cut back as part of the austerity programme.

Sadly, I'm not inclined to give either May or Rudd the benefit of the doubt on this one. I think until the whole thing blew up in their faces whilst the Commonwealth Heads of Government were on the scene, they weren't that interested in the effect on Windrush era immigrants.

She's resigned before giving her resignation speech:

So that's four ministers lost in 6 months.

Rudd resigns but May remains responsible for the policy.

Sajiv Javid appointed new Home Secretary.

I hope all his papers are in order.

I am sad to see Rudd go. Since she is a similar age to myself, I had always fancied her, certainly far more than Theresa May, who (to quote a fellow poster's comment a while back) rates "low in the shagability factor"

Esther McVey still tops them though!

Gentlemen, surely you cannot think it appropriate to reduce a politician to "shagability factor".
I think this rather demeans you - as it says you are not capable of serious and rational debate.

I think it indicates increasing age brings with it worsening eyesight and, sometimes, dementia.
