Robert Paul "Bob" Turpie

Born Sunday 13th November 1949, Hampstead

Q.P.R. apprentice who made 2 appearances in 1969/1970

As Tony Currie said in an interview on Q.P.R.'s official site a couple of years back: "I first joined Q.P.R. on amateur forms when I was 14 or 15 years old. Then when I left school the club didn't think I was good enough to sign as an apprentice. Instead, they signed Bob Turpie who was a mate of mine and went to the same school as me. So I then had to go and work for a small building firm..."

Turpie made his Q.P.R. debut coming on as substitute for the injured Mike Kelly (the same day Gerry Francis made his full Q.P.R. debut) on 13th Septembe 1969 away to Portsmouth. Q.P.R. won 3-1 (Francis, Clement and Bridges)

Kelly
Clement Hunt Hazell Watson
Sibley Bridges Francis
Wilkes Marsh Clarke

Peterborough United debut 19th August 1970 (League Cup 1st Round) v Watford 2-0

First Peterborough goal 26th September 1970 (Division 4) v Barrow 2-3

After leaving Boro' in early 1977 Bob had two spells with Leamington and in between played for Atherstone.
Incidentally for Boro' in August 1974 he scored one goal against East Stirlingshire in a
3-0 away pre-season friendly victory which started the reign of Sir Alex Ferguson.
