AFC Bournemouth are saddened to hear of the passing of former player Billy Coxon.
Billy Coxon (Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic, Poole Town)
Coxon signed for the club in November 1958 and was a huge part of the 1961/62 side which almost saw Cherries promoted.
The outside-left, also comfortable at left-back, created numerous goalscoring chances for the likes of Dickie Dowsett and Mike Burgess in his day, and also played in the famous League Cup wins over Cardiff City in 1961/62 and Newcastle United in 1963/64.
He played 200 Third Division games, scoring 37 goals, before moving to Poole Town in June 1966.
Coxon was then a local hotelier (Cherries Guest House in Holdenhurst Road) and taxi driver until moving back to his home town of Spondon in Derbyshire.
The club would like to send their condolences to Billy's family and friends at this time.
