Again , rubbish.
I have a couple of friends who have worked at many spoons in the kitchens/ bars and they have told me the steak when available is one of the few things cooked properly / not nuked.

It isn't something unique to Wetherspoons, but generally in such establishments I always try to have a steak or burger as it's always much more likely to have been made fresh rather than arrived frozen then heated up.

The burgers are frozen then reheated. There's hardly any food preparation in a spoons "kitchen".

Presumably it's done on the grill though rather than in the microwave which was the initial point, and in reality provides little difference to what you'd do if you got the burgers direct from a butcher unless you were cooking them straight away.

I would expect it to be common practice in the food-serving chain pub trade, and if nothing else at least Wetherspoon's clearly don;t offer any other illusion, whereas Brewers Fayre, Harvester and the like (only an example, I have no prior knowledge) probably do exactly the same, but charge the customer something approaching double the price.

It's called having fun

But that's just your idea of fun Gareth. I'm sure a significant proportion of Wetherspoon drinkers would be decidedly miffed if music and pool were introduced. Tim Martin will know that.

Oh right...up North somewhere then.

As I'm free tomorrow, will hopefully make a game, if anything is
still left on in the locale, then try that Gidea Park micro pub.

Weston's Old Rosie 7.3% #pisswater

I know I'm replying to myself but stick with it....

Well, gave this micro jobby a test run yesterday afternoon and
I have to say that I've never been so underwhelmed in a boozer.

Firstly, said building is a former solicitor's office but on opening
the door the decor - grey paint everywhere - takes a notch
or two down on the excitement scale.

There are about a dozen tables dotted around, of which three
seats only were occupied - which I get at that time of day in
said kind of establishment.

So decided to hang out at the bar before realising there isn't
one...no fookin' bar...WTF??

There's a dartboard, behind which is what one could only describe
as a glorified kitchen from where the lone barman dispenses one's order.

Liked the table service idea but just a shame there's no alternative.

Gave the wine a miss - they did Rioja at 17 a throw - which is
reasonable for these there parts and went for the Weston's Old Rosie,
as mentioned above.

Was given a choice of two pint, pint, half pint or third of a pint - a nice
touch I thought so, for starters, I went for the latter. It was nice
to be honest, albeit a bit warm for me, but one of these deceptively
strong drinks.

I reckon if you sat down and had four or five pints you'd stand up
doing 'Squiddly Diddly' impressions.

Went outside for a fag and Billy the Smurf rang me saying that he
and a few of the chaps were in the Ship across the road so went
back, swiftly drank up and exited left.

Can't see myself going back too soon, although on a hot summer's
day, two pints of Rosie with ice might just tempt me.

Visited the Beaufort, High Street, Clifton, Bristol last night - the jukebox, which seemed stuck on Captain Beefheart records was so loud that I could not have a conversation with the people that I went in with, in fact tne music could be heard 100 yards away. Left after one pint with ringing ears.
