Is it time for Italy to be dropped from the 5 Nations? Since joining in 2000 Italy have won 12 out of 85 games and have collected 12 wooden spoons. They don't really bring anything to the competition. except away fans get a weekend in Rome. Maybe replacing Italy with Georgia or a period of say 5 years or rotate Italy and Georgia every 2 years might help both nations. Another option could be the winners of the European Championship, or the best record over a set period, replacing the worst performing side of a set period, say every 4 years. This would give a chance to the likes of Georgia, Romania and Russia to compete in the 6 nations.

The other option is to resort back to a 5 nations competition.

I think relegating the sixth best team and replacing with the winners of the next tier is the best approach.

5 isn't a great number as it leaves one team spare each game week.

I would make it a two division competition with four teams in each. Bottom of one to be relegated and replaced by top of two each year. Each team would play each other in their division home and away with half the fixtures played in the autumn in place of the tedious friendlies currently in that slot and the other half in the spring. It would give a fair fixture list and meaningful matches throughout. It could be expanded into more four team divisions when appropriate, which it might already be. Obviously the traditionalists and money men would hate it so there is absolutely no chance of it happening.

After all the recent fun and games with VAR in football, I see that such things seem to have spread to rugby with the powers that be saying that the video ref made a wrong decision in not awarding Wales a try in the game against England

Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you.
