The discussion about the ConIFA World Football Cup and some of the less convincing arguments for 'international' teams there are got me thinking about how else you might choose teams for a tournament in which players were bound to one team on the basis of non-football reasoning. From what I've read, rather than existing to play against other clubs, the likes of Sheffield FC and others of the early era were there for members to play the game within the club. They had match-ups such as 'Uppers vs Downers', pitting players against one another based on their residence or 'Husbands vs Batchelors', etc. So, if you had all the Premier League's finest at your disposal - for the sake of argument - how would you divvy them up?

Millionaires v. multi-millionaires. The former would be a very young side.

Come up from the youth team vs Transfer made agent millions Or perhaps you might not get two teams for that one
Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

Anyone brave enough to suggest a rerun of Len Cantello's testimonial? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-37924448

Cricket had many such matches in Victorian times with the Gentlemen v Players matches continuing into the 1960s. One that I recall was Smokers v Non-smokers. Jack Wilshere might have his work cut out if they tried that one as I don't suppose there would be many Premier League players willing to admit that they qualify for former team, not to their managers anyway. How about left-footers v right-footers or straights v gays (oh no, sorry, there aren't any of them). Choice of referees for these games would be interesting. Would they have to exhibit both characteristics in order to prove their neutrality?

Vegans v Carnivores. Northerners v Southerners Yorkshire v Lancashire (easy win for the home side there ) Before the rise of global integration, and this isn't that long ago, then games in the World Cup finals would see an all white team against an all black team. Squads for the 2018 World Cup haven't been announced yet but looking at the groups then Nigeria v Iceland and Poland v Senegal could fall into this category.
