Rochdale v Tottenham Can't Post or Reply Privately

Tottenham manager Pochettino has raised concerns about the state of the pitch at Rochdale, ahead of their 5th round tie. "Rochdale's pitch is a "massive risk" to players and the Football Association must "take a decision" before Tottenham visit in the FA Cup next weekend, says Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.". With Rochdale being the home side they can prepare a pitch which they feel will give them the best chance of winning. If the is deemed dangerous then the referee will postpone or abandon the game.

Is Pochettino looking for excuses if his side, which most probably won't be his normal first choice XI, lose? Rochdale were drawn at home for this tie and they are going to make full use of that advantage.

But given the choice (which of course they won't be these days) they would have no problem switching to tie to Wembley for obvious reasons.?

I don't think you can switch the game to the opposing team's ground because of an unfit pitch. It used to be the case that you could do so if demand for tickets exceeded supply, but I don't think that is allowed either. It is many years since a club had to give up home advantage in the competition proper. I can't recall the last time it happened but maybe someone on here can advise.

2003. Game was switched to Highbury with safety concerns being the official reason given.

The FA were non to happy with the situation and it has not happened since.

The tie ended up at Wembley after a 2-2 draw. The relaid pitch held up well and Rochdale Hornets play on it tonight.

Spotland is now hosting it's 3rd game in 4 days, Rochdale v Spurs (Sun), Hornets v Dewsbury (Mon) and Rochdale v MK Dons (Wed). The new surface has only been down just over a week so I wonder how it is holding together.

Tonight's replay was farcical. not the conditions but the refereeing. I have noticed in some games where VAR is used in England that the referee automatically goes to VAR after every goal and this killed the game tonight.

Referee has no choice re the goals. That is the mandate from the powers that be. Every goal has to be assessed. The Ref on the pitch has no choice.

Yes but they spent a lot of it on a new pitch The share of gate receipts from the Tottenham replay at Wembley wouldn't be that great with only 24,627 there but made up by the TV money and prize money

Having watched the basketball equivalent of VAR for years, I hated the idea and all my misgivings were right. The ref's have to look at the film because they'll be slaughtered if they don't, they're then slaughtered for taking too long and slaughtered if they still (allegedly) get it wrong.
Goalline technology seems to work without too much trouble, this is a step too far

Probably around 200K from Wembley.
Winnings from 4 rounds 212K
TV fees v. Spurs 216K

What's the cost of a grass pitch? 100K?

No idea what a new grass pitch costs but for a club like Rochdale 100k is a lot of money even though they have made over 600k from this cup run.

I'm sure during commentary of the first game, it was said that they used money earnt from previous rounds to pay for the new pitch.

Which comes out of the 212k Mr.T gave for prize money. No doubt Rochdale would have better use for 100k, like paying players and staff rather than having to lay a new pitch mid-season.

Maybe PL clubs should learn from France and give gate their cut of the gate receipts to opponents that currently play outside of the PL.
