"What we needed" said an FAW spokesman "is a guy with extensive managerial experience, a man who has proved his commitment to the shirt over many years, and whose morals and ethical lifestyle are in keeping with our Together, Stronger motto and our drive to make Wales a family experience. So, obviously we went for Ryan"

And on top of that, so busy are the FAW with announcing the appointment that they postpone the FAW Trophy Quarter Final draw without warning. Unforgivable!

And a 4.5 year contract on a manager with no experience! Every chance Wales are going to waste this opportunity with a once-in-a-generation squad. If they don't get to a World cup with these players, it will be a real shame.

Re: [007Dale] Wales new boss [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

I suspect there is some truth in the view that if Bale and Ramsey stay fit and interested, and if players like Ben Woodburn build on their early promise, Wales will qualify for the next Euros and maybe Qatar 2022, whoever the manager is. But the last qualifying campaign showed that we only need to be one star player down for a couple of matches and we fail to make the grade, because the squad is wafer thin otherwise. That's when a good, experienced manager might make the difference.

It could also be argued that Giggs is the one taking the biggest risk of all. Inheriting just eighteen months after Wales reached heights that they are unlikely to reach again makes it an almost 'no win' situation for him, and if he fails badly his purported dream of managing Manchester United one day will be gone.

I would still have gone for continuity and with Osian Roberts though.

More? That implies there have been previous instances of success. The Home Championship perhaps?

I hope I'm wrong but I can't see Wales equaling or doing better in Euro2020 than they did in Euro2016.
