Nigel Sims, goalkeeper when Aston Villa last won the FA Cup in 1957, passed away at the weekend. Leaves Peter McParland as the only surviving member of that 57 side.

David Nigel "Nigel" Sims

born 9th August 1931 Coton in the Elms, Derbyshire
died Saturday 6th January 2018, aged 86

He joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 1948 as understudy to Bert Williams, and made his first team debut at the end of that season.

Whilst on National Service in 1950 he played for the Army against an Irish F.A. XI.

In 8 seasons at Wolves he only made 38 league appearances before transferring to Aston Villa in March 1956 and he made his debut against Burnley later that month.

He played representative matches for the Football League was the first winner of Aston Villa supporters Terrace Trophy in 1958.

In September 1964, having lost his place in the side, he transferred to Peterborough United. He appeared only 16 times for them before trying his luck in Canada, having already spent a summer with Toronto City. He appeared twice for the Toronto Falcons in the National Professional Soccer League and also played for Toronto Italia.

In August 2012 he published "In Safe Hands"
