Enjoyed watching the Billericay game tonight. With Wycombe boss Ainsworth one of the pitch-side analysts, hopefully he'll tell his club's webmaster they're not playing Leatherhead Town in the next round https://www.wycombewanderers.co.uk/...on-sale-from-friday/ Crazy

On the National League round up prog on BT Sport, Bromley's manager said that Barrow's keeper had a good game.

This was after Bromley's 1-0 away win at Guiseley. Presumably the manager wasn't in charge of the sat nav.

Not a sports presenter's mistake, but one from the boardroom instead...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/...and-suffolk-42043616

...with those in charge of publicity for Suffolk-based Adnams Brewery sending out a tweet that mentions "the mighty Norwich City!" Understandably, this has gone down like a muck-spreader-load of manure in the Suffolk heartland of Ipswich, with ITFC fans accusing the brewery of betrayal.

This brings back memories of the mid-nineties telly advertising campaign for Sugar Puffs, where Kevin Keegan brings on the Honey Monster to score for Newcastle United at Wembley (is he the only player to do so since Alan Gowling in the 1976 League Cup final? And they lost that one too!)...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TZka3k9Drw

Apparently, any sales growth of Sugar Puffs created by this advertising campaign was totally wiped out by the instant (and continuing to this day) boycott of Sugar Puffs by much of the population of the Sunderland and Middlesbrough areas! Some people just really should not get involved with football!

Not so much a mistake as a distinct lack of knowledge from a commentator who had earlier claimed he had been covering Belgian football for many years.

During the Zulte-Waregem v KAA Gent match the camera panned to half a dozen people dressed and blacked-up as Zwarte Piet. Our man exclaimed "I have no idea what the significance of those gentleman is".

As Zwarte Piets have been accompanying Saint Nicholas on his arrival at Belgian football grounds in late November/early December for as long back as I can remember, I thought he might have taken the trouble to find out the significance ..... clearly not.

Earlier in the season, might have been before they played Barrow live on BT, the presenter told us they also played in a 5,000 all seater stadium. He was inside the ground and on the pitch at the time. Crazy

On the sports news on ITV's Meridian Tonight on Wednesday, presenter Fred Dinenage (legendary host of 'HOW', former Pompey director and close buddy of the Kray Twins) showed Oxford United's winning goal in the Checkatrade v. Gillingham, and said:

"Well done the 'O's!"

Well done THE 'O's??!! Ha ha! It made me laugh, but I know plenty who'd have taken strong offence! Roll on 24th March!

Tuned it at 1pm to Talk Sport 2's dire coverage of the Trophy draw. After 15 minutes of waffle about Man City etc, we had a four minute advert break before the draw finally started at 1.19. Ray Stubbs then seemed to think the draw included clubs such as Gateshead Trinity, Weston-super-Mere and Chezzum United. Crazy

Apart from all that, the draw itself proceeded smoothly and threw up some interesting ties.

One of the Leicester Tigers (rugby) coaches was interviewed during the game with Saracens last Sunday.
He said his team were 'between the devil and a hard place'
I suppose that's marginally better than being between a rock and the deep blue sea.!

On the Nottm Forest v Arsenal FA Cup highlights on the BBC website

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42526172

Just before 3:30 in. Whoever the pundit is said Forest's second penalty should be retaken as the kicker touched the ball twice.

If that was the case, it should have been a free kick to Arsenal.

Perhaps not a mistake after all, so I might be doing the bloke a disservice, but the reporter for 5Live at today's Wigan v. West Ham match said that Will Grigg's two goals for Wigan makes him the top goalscorer so far in this season's FA Cup with six goals.

I'm going to guess he means Grigg is the top goalscorer in the four rounds proper played do far.

Did any player playing in the preliminary and qualifying rounds score more than six goals in this season's FA Cup?

Not sure this constitutes a mistake as such but thought it worth a mention

On the Channel 5 highlights of Fleetwood v Scunthorpe, it was said, with Scunthorpe leading 2-0, Fleetwood fans contemplating an early exit would have changed their minds when they pulled a goal back.

Fleetwood made it 2-1 with 3 minutes to go ... to half time!

During tonight's regular BBC Radio Oxford post-match moan-a-thon (they lost again!), an irate Oxford United fan phoned in to grumble about performances and the continuing lack of a manager. He finished off by saying:

Caller: "We need to employ a manager with more experience than David Bellamy."

Presenter: "You mean CRAIG Bellamy!"

At the winter Olympics there was an NBC sports reporter who jumped the gun to interview the American "Gold Medal Winner" while her(?) closest rival was still out on the course. Needless to say the inevitable happened as while the interview was going on "Gold Medal Winner" became "Silver Medal Winner" as the rival beat the American's time by 0.02sec.

On the day of the Spurs v. Newport County FA Cup replay the Evening Standard stated that the winners could look forward to a 5th round tie at Millwall.
Two problems about that statement though.
1. No one looks forward to a match at Millwall!
2. Millwall had already been knocked out by Rochdale in a replay.

BBC Final Score went for an update on Cambridge v Luton when the score was 1-0 to Luton.

The reporter said Luton were doing most/all of the attacking and were looking like the only side capable of doubling their score.

Cambridge sounded capable of doing that too, seeing as two times zero is zero.

The BBC Radio Oxford post-match phone-in is always amongst the funniest football talk you'll ever get the opportunity to hear, but today's helping after the match at AFC Wimbledon eclipsed even their usual erratic standards (subtle hint: they lost again!!)

Firstly, a dithering octogenarian of the yellow persuasion who sounded like something out of the latest UKIP party political broadcast, phoned in to say:

"Jerome, don't you think that Oxford United these days have got too many of these foreigners around? The problem with these foreign chaps is that they don't know how to jell."

...totally oblivious to the fact that the problem is that Oxford United have too many people around who simply don't have the foggiest idea how to play football! As if to point this out, the next caller almost screamed down the phone-line...

"What was that idiot on about?! Too many foreigners?! If Oxford United had Messi in the team, they'd be doing alright! Messi...! He's foreign!"

Another caller then said it's all down to Accrington Stanley FC playing well! Accrington aren't even in the same division!! (...though some OUFC fans of a certain age and gullibility do still have this idea that Stanley have some sort of voodoo spell over them!)

In order to block this ever-increasing tide of idiocy flooding out of the telephones, someone at BBC Radio Oxford thought it a bright idea to invite Oxford United right-back Todd Kane for a post-match interview. This interview was cut very short when young Todd, with all the menace of the Krays in their pomp, growled onto the airwaves...

"If I see that referee walking down the street, I'll put him DOWN!"

I think young Todd might be out-of-pocket when this gets back to football headquarters... just in time for the visit next week to the Kassam of the ever-jovial Steve Evans and Peterborough United. The one and only thing that all these callers agreed on, however, was a resounding win for Peterborough!

BBC Radio Oxford - the gift that just keeps on giving!

It wasn't a great day for BBC's FA Cup coverage.

Firstly they attributed the state of the Wigan pitch to the amount of rugby league played on it. I will leave it to all of you to amuse yourselves by counting how many Warriors home games have taken place in the last six months.

During the preamble to the semi final draw a banner was run along the bottom of the screen informing us of the ball numbers. Number four was apparently Wigan or Southampton, a tie that had finished more than three hours previously.

Then, after the draw, they felt we needed to be reminded of the two ties that had just been drawn. Obviously we can't be trusted to remember such complicated things. Except it was them that couldn't remember. They got that wrong too.

Crazy
