Scholes at Oldham? Can't Post or Reply Privately

Reported on the BBC footy site that Oldham have interviewed Paul Scholes for the vacant manager's position.

Do directors never learn?

They've got an unknown bloke in temporary charge, they've won 3/3 under him, he likes the club and wants the job.

Or they could employ a star name from the recent past who sure was a fine player, can talk a decent game as a pundit and has thrown money at Salford.

But haven't the Oldham directors seen what happened with Shearer? Didn't they notice what happened at Blues when Zola replaced Rowett?
Don't they remember that for all that Bobby Charlton and Bobby Moore were great players they were crap managers?

I'm certain who should get the job, but I bet someone else does.

The game needs more young (for a manager) English managers. He's taken some coaching badges.

Why be so negative?

Why so negative? (or I might say realistic)

1. The experience of Zola destroying 2 years of progress under Rowett at my team, Birmingham City (and that destruction is ongoing even tho he left 8 months ago)

2. A dislike of the power of "celebrity". Wellens, who has been caretaker there for 3 games is clearly pushing all the right buttons, and has loads of experience at this level. Why get rid in favour of a "name" who has never played or coached at this level?

He's about the same age as Scholes so your age point doesn't apply.

The list of players of Scholes' stature who have gone on to make great managers isn't long. Cruyff and Clough come to mind. The list of great players who made a pigs ear of management is much longer. Zola, Shearah, B Charlton, Styles, Ball, Ince......

He's only had an interview. I'd say the factors you've laid out shouldn't preclude him from having an interview.
