I am delighted to announce that this year’s groundhop will take place on the second Saturday in October.
We have three games as usual featuring one game in Division One and two in the Premier Division.
The day starts at Wixams 3g just outside Bedford where we visit Division One side Wixams for an 1100 kick off.
We then make the short trip from Wixams and onto the outskirts of nearby Biddenham for a 1400 kick off in the Premier Division at the brand new ground of AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College before making our way onto the village of Cranfield to pay a visit to Crawley Road home to former Spartan South Midlands side Cranfield United who round off the day with a 1700 ko in the Premier Division.
Admission to all the games is as usual free, with all clubs issuing a programme at £2 each.
Advance programme tickets are available at £6 for the three games or individual match tickets can be purchased to suit. Email bedfordshirehop@gmail.com for more details.
Also you can purchase a ticket by seeing me Craig Dabbs on the PDFL/UCL hop, the Welsh hop or indeed the NBFL hop.
Transport is provided at an additional £12 if you require it, pick up at Bedford Train Station at 0915.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at this years event.

Re: [paulh66] All Hops Details Sticky [In reply to] Can't Post or

The Reading to Didcot railway line is closed on the weekend of the North Berks Hop, according to a Email I received the organised transport will be working out of Oxford Parkway Station at Kidlington.

Those who are making their own way to the Hop by train can still get to Didcot from the north and the west, though services are subject to change. In fact a number of trains will be starting and terminating at Didcot. There are also rail replacement bus services from the south and east.

The first two games on the Hop are less than a mile apart on or around Harwell Campus (which is actually nearer Chilton than Harwell) a frequent bus service runs from the forecourt of Didcot station to Harwell Campus.

In the past year the Chilton Junction on the A34 has been upgraded and you can now exit the A34 when travelling south and enter it travelling north. The junction is very near to the Harwell Campus and in fact was upgraded due to it's growth.

I'm not sure what facilities are available in the Harwell Campus other than those at the games but there is a large Garden Centre with Cafe next to the A34 junction very close to the complex. Also at Rowstock Crossroads Roundabout a mile or so north of the complex there is a garage with a minimart.

Those who require a drink might find it worth while contacting The Rose & Crown in Main Street, Chilton which is less than two miles from the Harwell Complex and has very good reviews. If it is the same Landlord as the last time I went to the pub he is a very helpful chap.

B&BFA website has this down at the moment as a 7.30pm kick-off, though no indication either way on Milton Utd's website yet.

For those catching the x2 bus, there should be a bus arrive at the bus-stop just down from the ground about 9.40pm heading back to Abingdon/Oxford.

It's the Newbury Show this weekend so expect delays at the M4 / A34 junction 10 miles south of the Chilton Junction. The show ground is adjacent to the junction..

The Newbury Show has clashed with the NBL 'Hop for the last few years. Each time I have driven from Dorset and have had no problems whatsoever, including years where I have driven virtually past the entrance to the show. I'd be surprised if the traffic is much different this year.

Only relaying the what the media has put out, I've certainly been held up there a number of times trying to get onto the the M4 from the A34. And have seen queues on the M4 of a mile or two coming from the west to exit the motorway onto the A34, not sure what they are from the east as I don't use that bit of the motorway. If you are passing through the the junction on the A34 it is quite often clear as the junction is quite large, from exiting the M4 from the west you go down to a roundabout then up a slip onto the A34 north which is also the road for the entrance to the show ground - it splits 400 yards before the A34. From the east you have to go down the slip road and past the entrance to the services and go right round the roundabout and join the above mentioned slip / road. The roundabout has lights which are quite often out of sink or those exiting the A34 from the south going to the showground tend to queue across the roundabout blocking those coming from the north on the A34 going west on the M4.

Never been an issue for me in the past whilst attending previous NBFL hops and coming off the M4 J10 or going back on it after the last match.
Remember the one of two years ago when heading home and witnessed about a dozen hot air balloons taking off from the showground site which was quite a spectacle. And there was no traffic problems.

Apparently the HW game will be all ticket "due to regulations". Wonder what these regulations are, as the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup Final played there earlier this year was pay on the gate as have been SPFL Development League games with crowds of 400+.

Indoor stadium at ORIAM has 500 seats and can take another 100 standing.

Outdoor pitch would take 200 maximum.

I doubt very much if Heriot Watt will be able to book the ORIAM indoor pitch this far in advance - the SFA and SRU, as co-funders, have absolute priority on it for their own matches, training and coaching courses. For example, this week the UEFA Elite Youth Licence Coaching course is using it for four days. The SRU take it over during the 6 Nations Championship.

If you can get to Stratford International quickly after the Waltham Forest match, the train journey is only 15 minutes or so to Ebbsfleet.

The Bedfordshire League Full Time website says the hop game at Wixams on 14 October is on the grass pitch.

Their regular venue appears to be the 3G.

Can anyone confirm which pitch the game wil be on, and whether or not it'll be at their regular home pitch?

Sorry it's took a couple of day's to notice this. We will be on the grass pitch. The 3g is booked and there is more room outside the cage.

Bit late notice but anyone driving to Wixams should be aware of the Council cash raising scheme which targets drivers.

There are 3 roundabouts signposting Wixams DO NOT take the one with the blue bus/cyclist only post as you will get a £60 fine. Appaling signage and it is literally only a few yards of road that you can't use. Don't be tempted though - a recent freedom of information request disclosed over a 100k raised at this contoversial site.

This roundabout is the 1st one as you approach from Bedford or the
3rd as you approach from Barton/Luton.

Hope this helps.

The Redbridge game has now been scuppered by Great Wakering's progression in the Vase.

Instead, a new game has been pencilled in for 5:30 - Hackney Wick v Wadham Lodge.

For those not keen on going to Waltham Forest, West Essex are at home at 3pm (play at Barking). Otherwise there's bound to be plenty of games in the Olympian, Middlesex or Essex Alliance Leagues that can be taken in.

Speaking to a Heriot Watt official, they are wondering who is going to pay for the hire of the ORIAM indoor pitch for a one-off home game?

Costs a good few hundred quid.

If it does go ahead there then it will not need to be all-ticket - holds between 500 and 600.

I'd have thought an additional fiver's contribution from GHUK's core 200 would cover a notional hire cost of £500. Oops, there would be some left over too...........Angelic
