Over half a century later she stayed up all night with me, waiting to watch the TV coverage of Neil Young taking his one small step.

Was this step onto the Harvest Moon?

1969 was a good year for him, he won the F.A.Cup as well.

Whoops!

Not Young, but that other Neil the one that went to the moon with Buzz Lightyear and Phil Collins.

Still not as good as the time I explained to my other half that Edward VIII had abdicated in order to marry Barnes Wallis.

It made a real splash. Blush

Unfortunately, Mrs B knew exactly who Barnes Wallis was and as a girl had played the trumpet, so was able to break into the Dambusters March Unsure

However, despite my attempts to mangle history she claims to have made the best attempt to confuse, namely when she mixed up two Bond villains. I must admit that though Oddjob and Blofeld were exotic bad guys, I try not to imagine what evil her Blojob would have been capable of. Shocked

They won't allow anyone to board a train with alcohol at York station on a Saturday evening and actively enforce it. Having been on early-evening southbound trains calling at York, where it fills up with Doncaster's finest returning home after a day on the pop, I can well understand why!

I think some of the Saturday evening trains out of Paddington are "dry" as there is plenty of scope for those boarding already having had a few.

Banned on Merseyrail stations as well I see.

With regard to the Scot Rail ban I take it that it doesn't cover VT and XC trains heading to England?

Alcohol ban on London Midland leaving Liverpool after 9am

From their Website

"To make everyone's journey more pleasant, alcohol is now banned on London Midland trains from Liverpool after 9pm on Friday & Saturday nights.

Boarding controls will be in operation, supported by the British Transport Police; if you try to bring alcohol on board, or we think you’ve had too much to drink, you won’t be allowed to travel.

These restrictions are in place following a series of drink-related incidents on board late night trains on the Liverpool route. Other measures have also being introduced, including security staff and police officers on-board trains between Liverpool and Crewe.

Thank you for your co-operation"

ScotRail only as far as I'm aware, although I'd have thought there can't be many cross-border trains that leave after 9pm anyway, bar the sleeper services.

Not my choice of liquid, but that sounds suspiciously cheap, especially from a con-artist like Dicky Branson. Very suspiciously cheap...

Thinking back, the only time I can ever remember buying booze from a catering trolley on a train was on the Sprinter service between Portsmouth and Southampton all the way back in March 1997. We were on our way to The Dell for Southampton 2 Leicester City 2 (cheering from the Stevie Claridge end of the ground, obviously) and kicked the day off with yellow tins of Hoffmeister at £3 each... Unsure
