They were 24 hours too late. The shredding of documents began earlier according to an insider quoted on Sky tonight.

The natural reaction of any normal human being to the Fire would be to vow to find out pronto what the hell what wrong, and if any other buildings have similar problems sort them out, never mind waiting for a public inquiry, and to make damn sure it never happens again.

That's what our gutless wonder of a PM should have been telling the survivors of the fire face to face.

Time to get rid.

I can see how the current PM might held accountable for reduced policing numbers that potentially contributed to the recent terrorist attacks. I fail to see how the PM can be blamed for a housing refurbishment decision take by Kensington council.

But hey, why not kick her while she's down.

Sadly this disaster was waiting to happen and hopefully now others can now be avoided. Underfunding and buck passing are the main culprits along with dodgy deals, jobs for the boys and little sweetners.

The complaints the residents have had and constantly ignored is echoed through out the country. Councils have now got to take a good look at themselves weed out the weak and corrupt in their ranks, start employing the best applicatiants for jobs, listen to complaints and record them correctly and stop giving out false information.

If a number of council employees and contractors end up locked up it basically not before time.

Either the decisions taken by the Council and Contractors were illegal and contravened regulations in which case a number of those involved should be heading for long jail sentences, or the decisions didn't contravene them and reflected de-regulation and doing things on the cheap. Lack of proper regulation isn't down to local councils but to Central Government.

Given the horrific way in which so many people perished we need answers now.

And the continued reduction in Local Authority budgets from Central Government over the last 10 or more years has meant that Councils have less and less money to spend on, well, anything.

A lot of Council failings can be laid at Town Hall doors, but a lot must also be directed at Westminster/Downing Street.

Even if that was the case surely any honest contractor would not do a job that is putting life in danger. Sadly many contractors, builders or whatever I have had dealings with in my personal life or professional life have not stuck to agreements be it wanting cash payments, using cheaper substandard materials or a list of other misdemeanors such as swopping materials so you pay for the good stuff but end up with substandard stuff while the good stuff goes eelsewhere on their lorry. And don't start me on over ordering where the contractor thinks the "left overs" are his and a perk of the job.

In one job I was in the warehouse manager brought it to my attention that builders / contractors were approaching him with a view to ascertaining fire labels for furniture. They were getting labels and attaching them to non compliant furniture. Speaking to a manufacturer they said they had to keep fire labels under lock and key as there was such a market for them.

Radio 4 are revealing that the Council have turned down the offer of food and accommodation from Westfield Shopping Centre.
Added to this the May government's response is falling apart at the seams.

Oooh, where do you get that from ? I read a piece that said the collection centre had more food than it could handle, and that those in the westway sports centre had been re-housed.

How is the Govt's response 'falling apart at the seams' ?, Not saying you are wrong, just cannot find anything on news outlets

Oh yes, clearly plannned by the Tory's to over-turn the slim Labour majority.

Seems OTT to lay the blame at Mrs May's draw. Heaven forbid that we might actually wait for the official enquiry before burning her at the stake.

If Hillsborough is anything to go by, Mrs May will be dead and buried long before the report is published!

Rather disappointing that the political point scoring has begun already.

Inevitably investigation work is going to take some considerable time although if there are other blocks of flats with the same cladding surely they are not fit for habitation? In the longer term surely these old tower blocks have had their day?

I visited the area briefly this morning and it was certainly quite chilling to see the burnt out tower block, not the same as seeing it on TV. I didn't see any of this anger, most of which has been stirred up by the rent a mob brigade, just people acting in a thoroughly dignified way. So sad to see so many photos everywhere of missing people.

I don't want witches or scapegoats I want to know went wrong and why.

The very least we owe those who died horribly in their own homes, and those who lost friends and relatives in this real life nightmare, is to find out the truth. Quickly.

I don't care what form the enquiry takes as long as it is quick and effective. As long as it reports in weeks and not in months and, dear god, not in the years that it took the lawyer fest of the Bloody Sunday and Iraq Enquiries.

At least in future we may hear less drivel about the joys of de-regulation and health and safety gone mad.
