Well lib dems lost southport and Richmond park to tories Tim farron seat could gone which would been embarrassing, plus think labour took 2 off them in Leeds and Sheffield, really the uk political map is tough for them to break into new ground,

Yet they increased their number of seats overall from 8 to 12

The sdp split labour during the 80s

Most MP's from the centre wing of the Labour Party stayed put. So the big split never materialised & the merger with the Liberals made the whole SDP experience an irrelevance. In my opinion those that created the SDP should've stayed within the Labour Party. The 1983 GE defeat was the catalyst that moved the Labour Party more to the centre ground & the Far Left were eventually expelled from the Party. The current Politely Map has returned very much to 1981 scene. But this time the Left wing of the Labour Party is in a lot stronger position. There's been talk of a split, but history shows that it fails & that's why I doubt we'll see another one.

Never tell a Sandgrounder that they live on Merseyside.

The Tories hold other seats in Merseyside, mostly in the Wirral.

I should think the same caveat applies.

Is the Wirral population referred to as the Merseyothersiders?
Of course, if the Wirral did not like Merseyside, perhaps a few less people could use the tunnels each week, and go to Tranmere instead of stadiums close by Stanley Park
