Scotland March 24-26th, Some Options Can't Post or Reply Privately

Alternative Fixture for Friday March 24th

Lothian Amateurs Anderson Cup Final
At Blackburn United JFC, New Murrayfield Park (3G surface)
Fauldhouse Amateurs v Carnwath Amateurs, 7.30pm KO

Saturday March 25th

11am (finish 12.50 approx)
East of Scotland League
Eyemouth United v Lothian Thistle HV (Warner Park)
Windy venue. Anticipate a big away win.

2.00pm (finish 3.45 approx)

Scottish Amateur Cup Quarter Final
Barca Milton v Oban Saints (probably at The Jewel, East Edinburgh)
Match of the day, I’d say. 50 miles from Eyemouth, 1hr

Craigshill Thistle v Southside (Craigshill, Livingston)
Probably on an outside pitch rather than the athletics stadium, just a wee bit far for 2pm KO.

Border Amateur League (Decent standard as good as many East of Scotland League, basic grounds. Some very picturesque)
Greenlaw v Jed Legion (WS Happer Park)
Stow v Tweedmouth Ams (Stow Park)
Earlston Rhymers v Hawick Legion (Runciman Park)
Leithen Rovers v Newtown (Victoria Park, Innerleithen – outside pitch)
Melrose v CFC Bowholm (Netherdale, probably outside pitch)
Selkirk Vics v Lauder (Yarrow Park, probably outside pitch), 45 miles from Eyemouth, 1hr 10mins

Beveridge Cup SF
Hawick Waverley v Gordon (Wilton Lodge Park)
Hawick Royal Albert’s pitch before they moved to Albert Park in the 1960s, 51 miles from Eyemouth, 1hr 10 mins, very tight.

Tweeddale Rovers v Chirnsidce United (Kerfield Park, Peebles)
Adjacent to Peebles Rovers Whitestone Park

Walls Cup SF
Hawick United v Linton Hotspur (Wilton Lodge Park, Pitch 2), 51 miles from Eyemouth, 1hr 10 mins, very tight.
Kelso Thistle v Gala Hotspur (Woodside Park)
Kelso’s East of Scotland League ground until a few years ago)

2.30pm (finish 4.15 approx)
East of Scotland League
Tweedmouth Rangers v Peebles Rovers (Old Shielfield)
Former Scottish League ground in the early 1950s. Some doubt about this club’s future direction. Minimal chance of a programme. 15 minutes from Eyemouth.

East Junior Super League
Musselburgh Athletic v Broxburn Athletic (Olive Bank) 46 miles from Eyemouth, 1hr

Quirky ground and has the looks of a good match. No programmes but usually free teamsheets.

Linlithgow Rose v Penicuik Athletic (Prestonfield)
Excellent ground. No programmes. 72 miles from Eyemouth, 1 hr 30 mins

East Juniors South Division
Easthouses Lily v Lochgelly Albert (Newbattle Complex)

Much improved ground with new seated stand. No programmes. 50 miles from Eyemouth, 1hr

Blackburn United v Stoneyburn (New Murrayfield)
Newish ground, programme virtually guaranteed, 72 miles from Eyemouth, 1hr 25 mins

3pm (finish 4.50 approx)
East of Scotland League
Coldstream v Tynecastle (Home Park – pronounced like Sir Alec Douglas)
Much improved ground over the past five years.

SPFL
Hibernian v Falkirk
Livingston v Airdrieonians
Edinburgh City v Elgin City
One of the last-ever games at Meadowbank Stadium

Lowland League
Civil Service Strollers v East Kilbride (Marine Drive)
Could see EK crowned Champions

Spartans v Gala Fairydean Rovers (Ainslie Park).
Vale of Leithen v BSC Glasgow (Victoria Park)
Watch the first half of Leithen Rovers next door at 2pm?

7pm
Hawick Royal Albert v East Stirlingshire

NB, If not going to Eyemouth / Coldstream, then anywhere in Central or Southern Scotland is within reach for this.

3G OPTIONS
Few and far between. Many clubs with 3G surfaces have played all or almost all of their home games.

In the event of rain, then head for:

2.30pm
Blackburn United v Stoneyburn

3pm
Spartans v Gala Fairydean Rovers

All Border Amateur games scheduled for grass but some likely to be switched to 3G in case of bad weather. This can happen as late as the morning of the game.

NB Lothian Amateur fixtures for Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th not yet available. Will add any relevant or interesting ones in due course.

Sunday March 26th
12.15pm
Ormiston v Leith Athletic (Recreation Park)
Expect a very easy away win

Kick off time more or less precludes any additions, except Scotland v Slovenia at Hampden, 7.45pm KO.

In the event of Ormiston being off there will be plenty LEAFA Sunday section games and a full programme of Women’s football, many on 3G.

Whole site will be demolished and part of existing stadium site sold for housing. Two new pitches will not be concurrent with present ones. May overlap but will have to wait and see.

Regarding The Jewel, Barca Milton will probably move the game in the event of bad weather.

Good news is that the weather for later in the week looks not too bad. However, the ground is saturated and any sort of rain between Friday and Sunday will cause some element of doubt.

Met office site (can change dramatically in their forecast from day to day)

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/gcvwr3zrw

Lothians Amateur Fixtures for Saturday 25th are now out, all 2pm KOs.

Those of interest include:

Miller Cup SF
Portobello Thistle v Vale of Craig Blackridge, at Portobello HS 3G
Salters v Edinburgh University II, at Millerhill Park

Blaikie Cup QF
East Linton v Linlithgow Thistle, at Memorial Park, East Linton (down towards Eyemouth)

Victory Cup QF
Salvesens FC v Balerno Athletic, at Forrester HS 3G, Edinburgh

Ronnie Travers Cup Rd 1
Pathead v Pencaitland, at Callander Park, Pathead (on A68 south of Dalkeith)

Ronnie Travers Cup rd 3
Edinburgh South Vics v Heriot Watt Uni II, at Saughton 3G 1pm KO

Dunedin Cup QF
Edinburgh Star v Armadale Rose, Saughton 3G, 3pm KO

League Games
Newcraighall Leith Vics v redhall Star, at Newcraighall Park

The Sunday Section offers some 10.30am Kick Offs. The 12.15 KO at Ormiston means doubles are not possible but you could easily see the first half of:

League Cup
Joppa United v Oxganges Trinity, at the Jack Kane Centre, Niddrie
Macmerry Miners v Gotham City, at Macmerry Public Park, only 10 minutes drive from Ormiston
Dalkeith Thistle v Meadowbank, at Callendar Park, Pathead, on A68, also only 10 minutes from Ormiston

Amongst the 2pm KOs the nearest to Ormiston is
Edinburgh Caledonian v Dalkeith Thistle, on one of the back pitches at Peffermill

Also, confirmation that the Ormiston game is the last ever game on the old pitch at Recreation Park. They will move to their new ground for 2017/18. Work starts on the new pavilion, on the old pitch, in April.

Before we get to the good weather at the weekend snow is forecast in the Lothian and Borders area on Tuesday and rain on Wednesday. A word of caution for those visiting Coldstream, their match vs Burntisland Shipyard last Saturday was called off by the match referee upon his arrival which came as a big surprise to the groundsman who thought the pitch perfectly playable.

Heavy snow across parts of Central Scotland this morning. Even the motorways are bit dodgy. Supposed to clear by this evening. Forecasr for Friday / Saturday still favourable.

Latest weather update. -4 overnight Tuesday to Wednesday, pitches would not be playable at 11am this morning, probably ok by afternoon.

No frost forecast from Thursday onwards. Forecast still dry for Friday and the weekend.

According to one of the clubs involved 89 tickets have been sold for their Groundhop match.

I was wondering if anyone doing this Saturday by car could take a passenger - petrol money forthcoming of course?

I can get to the first game easily enough, and I can get a lift back to Falkirk on the Shire supporters bus after the Hawick Royal Albert v East Stirlingshire game, but public transport in between isn't good enough to get me around.

Failing that, it's an amateur double header for me.
