I saw Brentford v Eastleigh Town on MOTD FAC 3rd round on Saturday.

Or so I was "informed".

To be fair India's "qualification" came about only because they were the last of the Asian sides to withdraw.

The oft touted reason for India's withdrawal was they were not allowed to play barefoot, though I do I wonder if that story may be apocryphal.

On the same programme that Manish told us that there were 4 non-league teams involved rather than 5

BBC website this time. Reading a report of today's AFCON game between DR Congo and Ivory Coast which ended 2-2, the reporter goes on to say "DR Congo, who will not make the last eight..."
Are they prohibited from progressing further? They currently sit on top of the group and may only need a draw against Togo to finish in the top two.
Journalistic mistake or simply the reporter's (badly-phrased) opinion ?

EDIT : Report now changed with above comment removed...

Just caught up with the Football League goals and Lindsay Hipgrave, (I think), told us all about the Newcastle v Rotherham game as she introduced the show, followed by "But first, to St James Park".

BT's on-camera "expert pundits" at Sutton were Danny Mills and 1989 hero Matt Hanlan so the bar wasn't exactly set high, but Hanlan surely becomes the first ever TV pundit to be allowed to bestow us with pearls of wisdom while chewing gum.

Channel 5 said that Fleetwood's ground was the only FL ground inaccessible directly by train.

Various grounds are accessible by underground or tram, as opposed to train (e.g. Fleetwood!) so what about some of those. Bury perhaps?

That one got me thinking as well and maybe the presenter was including trams as well. Oldham used to have a couple of stations (Mumps was the nearest to Boundary Park) but are they still in existence on Network Rail?
EDIT. Answering my own question it seems both Mumps and Werneth have gone so it's just the Metrolink these days.

After an hour of largely ignoring the incessant monotonous drone of Owen Hargreaves' punditry on the West Ham v City game, ears pricked up when he came out with "that's a great foul by Sterling". A professional foul to the rest of us. Jimmy Hill will be spinning..

A great foul is one I would associate with Norman Hunter or Ron Harris.

Not a presenter's mistake, but a very short break in transmission on the BBC World Service news this morning. When talking about last night's West Ham v. Man.City match, the presenter's line went something along the lines of...

"In last night's football ... [crackle] Chester City thrashed West Ham United with four goals."

A lovely thought!

Not sure if this is a mistake per se but anyway ...

Derby's equaliser in the FA Cup replay at Leicester came from a free kick just outside the Leicester penalty area.

Unlike when in a similar position earlier, Derby didn't go straight for goal from the free kick, we were told, because they wanted to "change the angle".

It was also an indirect free kick, which might have had something to do with it. But maybe Derby didn't notice/forgot that, in which case ...

Various of late on the BBC and BT who seem to think Oxford City beat Swindon two weeks ago and yesterday narrowly lost to Middlesbrough in the F.A.Cup.

As an aside Oxford United seemed to supply their own commentator on Match of the Day. Robyn Cowan until recently was doing reports and commentary on Oxford United Ladies and Brackley Town. To be fare she has done quite a few National reports of late. Shame she has not replaced the usual suspects on Radio Oxford, many of whom must me nearing their 90th birthdays.

During the Sutton Utd v Arsenal FA Cup tie, the 5,013 attendance was declared to be the lowest for a competitive Arsenal first team game since accurate records began.

Which obviously didn't include the 4,554 against Leeds in the old Division One in 1966!

And, apparently, George Ramsay served as Aston Villa manager for 42 years from 1887 to 1920.

You don't need a GCSE in Maths to become a BBC football commentator if the interview with Conor McNamara on Chris Evans' breakfast show this morning is anything to go by:
'You could fit 20 of Gander Green Lane into the Emirates Stadium - 5,000 into 60,000'

Amuses me when the footballer-turned-pundit cannot even get the cliches right. Danny Murphy, Five Live's commentary sidekick at the Chelsea-Swansea game, suggested victory gave the Blues a "nice blanket" at the top of the table. I'm sure he meant cushion. Was he thinking of a comfort blanket, I wonder? Was he thinking, period?

Noticed something during Channel 5's goal highlight's for Fulham v Preston.

After Preston pulled a goal back to make it 2-1, Fulham's third goal came "two minutes later", with the relevant goal time given as 68 and 77 minutes.

Eh?!
