New plastic 5 banknotes - low serial numbers Can't Post or Reply Privately

I was given a new 5 banknote in my change for a 10 note from a Sainsbury's self-service till a few days ago. The interesting thing is that it has a very low serial number of AA11 183277 and from what I've read on Google it seems that it might be worth at least 20 on the collecting market. Has anyone found a low serial number on theirs, and how much do you think it is worth? I would like to sell mine but would prefer to take it along to one of the specialist collecting shops in central London rather than sell it on Ebay.

I have a 5 in my pocket. Its serial number is unique.
Is that good enough for you to pay me 50 for it?

If that's true and they're already worth 20 or so, then I'd guess that this is because of long term collectors/investors believing they're going to go up in value far more over time.

Aside from numbers they are horrible things. I had a pile of them doing the gate yesterday and they were slipping around all over the place. And to think all notes will soon be made of the same material.Mad

On Numismatics generally I have in my possession a couple of Brunel 2 coins with a2006 date/year stamped on them. Apparently they are worth 250 each......what am I bid?

I'm starting to believe this is all a bit of a con.

I have seen ONE AA01 note, yet the barmaid in our local has managed to collect 7 low AA00's

The woman next door has some thrupenny bits I wouldn't mind having a look at. I think she's got some other old coins too.

Not keen on the new notes myself, once they get creased they become fiddly. Although over time they hopefully won't get as tatty as some of the old fivers did.
I haven't seen any low serial numbers.

Whatever the serial number, these new fivers are apparently not suitable for vegetarians

Personally I've no intention of eating one

Royal Bank of Scotland notes are animal fat-free. Not sure about the other Scottish banknotes.

I would have thought you'd have had nothing to do with these notes considering they contain animal fat. I'll relieve you of the offending note(s) for 3 each and promise not to report you to to the Vegan Society.
I assume FGR also refuse to accept these heinous items Cool

Half a cow has been used to produce all the notes, allegedly. Thought they could have found an alternative. That must be such a small amount maybe each note has more human DNA on it than tallow. Is most beer the same with a very small amount of animal rennet. Jelly another one?.

If they do end up changing the recipe, are they going to just issue a notice as to which serial numbers are "safe"?

Or will they end up having to change the whole design of the notes?

Either way, the animal notes could end up collectable eventually.
