Come one Engerland! Spiffing draw in Slovenia. Champions of the Universe, without a doubt.

A bit defensive i think.
The criticism of the Scottish team will come from within Scotland. Not from England.

Not defensive. Just putting things into perspective for an Engerlander.

England saved from another humiliation by the mightly Joe Hart.

We were indeed saved by Joe Hart in the main from our own mistakes rather than Slovenian invention.
But it would not have been a humiliation any more than Scotland's was.
In Britain we really must stop thinking we have a God given right to win games.

Can't read too much into it, the Scots were probably resting a few players ahead of their cup final at Wembley next month.. Tongue

That will be the side that finished above Holland in their Euro qualifying group, a feat for which they have received scant credit. All anyone seems to focus on is that England lost to a 'small country', one that has been achieving way beyond what their resources suggest they should be capable of for a good few years.

As an aside England will presumably qualify from this group by winning the home games and drawing the away games while the other nations beat each other.

Meanwhile Scotland will presumably get all 'fired up' for the match against the 'Auld Enemy' and leave their supporters wondering why they can't lift themselves for the games they need to win against the likes of Slovakia.

I think two main points of Iceland's success are their focus on education of coaches and the advent of technology that allows building of indoor football pitches at reasonable cost thus extending the football season.

For many years they've over-achieved in handball, which is a big sport in Iceland during winter - to the extend that you probably can't call it "over achievement" any more.

Just back from listening to Britain's greatest sports writer, Hugh McIlvanney, in his home town of Kilmarnock, in conversation with Graham Spiers.

First question from Spiers

"Just how shite were Scotland?

McIlvanney: "I think you're doing a disservice to excrement."

As an Englishman who has lived in Scotland for 10 years I can precious little encouragement from the efforts of either national side at the moment.
What a rip-roaring thriller we have in prospect at Wembley in November...Crazy Thankfully we've booked the theatre that night!

Judging by our performance the other night neither are we. Unsure

I'd drop Alli, Dier, Walker and Rose for a start...
