Ads taking me off the site Can't Post or Reply Privately

Not sure if anyone else has this problem:

I usually access this site through my iPhone, but of late I'm having real problems being sent off the site to adverts that don't allow me to get back to this site.

It's getting to the point where it's very difficult to enter this site from my phone. I don't have this problem with any other website I use. Although occasionally I get a problem when i follow a link from a Twitter news article.

Any suggestions on how I can resolve this would be greatly appreciated!

I've never heard of this and obviously it isn't supposed to happen. What are the ads for? Some of them are delivered by a third party ad agency so I would need to raise the issue with them but I need more information.

Thanks.... Steve

I was just about to post exactly the same problem. When viewed on my iPhone 6, the site often redirects. I've tried just now and it's gone to midnightad.xyz.

Sadly same with my iPhone.
Nearly ever link takes me from the site to some junk advertising site.

Re: [Three Sides] Ads taking me off the site [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

It seems to be a long standing and well known problem due to rogue advertisers inserting code into Google AdSense adverts. I haven't found a solution... neither has anyone else from what I can see..... it's not the fault of this site nor the ad agency that serves the ads... it's really down to Google to find a solution to stop it happening.

The only 'fix' that there is seems to be to use an ad blocker on mobile devices which is a shame for sites like this that actually need the ads not to make a profit but simply to keep the site online :(

Are we still having these problems? Since there hasn't been any new mentions?

I could pull the ads from the site altogether but I would need a LOT more subscriptions / donations than I currently get to cover the cost of keeping the site online. It's really up to you, the site users as to what route you want to go down as I can't fund the site on my own right now due to health problems with my wife which has meant I have had to give up my 'proper' job.

Those of us without iphone's or ipads have not been getting these problems, we also don't spend half the night awake checking our e-mails!

Have to say it's improved massively the last week or so, hence my increase in posts! (Some might argue that's a bad thing)

I have a similar problem that started about a week ago - everytime I post I am taken off site. I have to log in again.

Re: [pitch 63] Ads taking me off the site [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

I read a good article about this problem which explains it very well. I will reproduce part of it here:

In short, this is how it works: We the publishers enter into a relationship with an ad network. In addition to their own ads, those ad networks run ads from other third-party ad networks. When an advertiser inputs an ad, the ad network checks to ensure there are no spam or malware or phone hijacking ads. However, once the ad has passed inspection, some of these shady motherf**kers come in and add the hijacking code into the ad. Theyíre hard to detect because there are scores of third-party ad networks within each ad network with hundreds of ads being delivered all over the Internet.

In other words, they sneak these ads into legitimate respectable ad networks (even Googleís own ad network), against the policies not only of the ad networks, but against the policies of the Apple/Android/Google App stores, and even the clients disapprove of these ads (King, the maker of Candy Crush ó where Iím redirected more than any other place ó is also trying everything they can do to prevent the ads).

Ad networks do eventually locate the ads and remove them, but thereís a lag time in which users can be affected. That hurts the end-usersí experience, and makes publishers look bad because it seems as though we are trying to profit off of a stupid Candy Crush redirect. We are not. We hate them just as much as you, and maybe more, because we not only have to deal with trying to get rid of them, but also embarrassment when someone on Twitter or Facebook calls us out for annoying ads. We donít benefit from these ads. We are not paid any extra amount of revenue; in fact, we lose a visitor every time these redirects take them away from our site
.
Itís a problem with the mobile ad industry as a whole, and while they are working to improve the situation, itís clearly a slow process. The problem is huge for both ad networks and publishers, because when these ads occur, users are more likely to use adblockers, which hurts the bottom line of both publishers and ad networks. In other words, these ads not only do not benefit us, they hurt our bottom line.

In the meantime, all we can do is apologize and hope that our ad networks become more efficient at whack-a-moling the problem away.

Re: [steve walker] Ads taking me off the site [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

I've never had any problems on my home PC, and on the rare occasions I've accessed the site on my mobile to check the WAYG section on frost lottery days I've not experienced any issues. Thanks for posting the info though Steve as that explains the problem perfectly well, and if it happens to me in the future I'll know why.

It does seem to affect those trying to post on mobile devices though so, because I only post when I'm at home, maybe that's why I've had no problems.
