No, from my knowledge of Belgium, (over 200 grounds ticked), the one thing the Belgies like less than their current union is to split and then unite with France and Netherlands.

That wasn't being suggested but the Flemish independence movement is strong.

Belgium is similar to the U.K.
Some Flemish and Walloons would prefer to be independent and others prefer the united country.
Some English, Northern Irish, Scots and Welsh would prefer independence and others prefer the Union.
Maybe a privately educated member of the ‘metropolitan elite’ from the south-east doesn’t have the intelligence to see that or chooses not to.

The only credible politician in UKIP is Suzanne Evans.

Who, because of UKIP's courting of Stephen Yaxley-Lennon aka Tommy Robinson, and increasing anti Muslim stance, has quit the party.

And, annoyingly, much as I dislike Nigel Farage I have to admit that he is a highly effective politician and is capable of a principled stand, such as he has just demonstrated by also quitting UKIP for the same reasons.

Could we yet see our Nigel return to national politics?

His interview yesterday evening on Peston certainly suggested it.

Yes, you were right, he returned Frown

And,his Brexit party's querying the possible abuse of postal votes is raising a valid concern. And one that the major parties have not seemed brave enough to look into.

The whole postal vote system is a disaster waiting to happen.

Why we still have this but not even a proposal for online voting here in 2019 astounds me.

Re: [Richard Rundle] Nigel farage [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Never mind the postal votes; the whole voting system is a disaster waiting to happen. As someone who has acted as a Presiding Officer for many years I find it astonishing that no one is required to produce identification in order to vote. Even if I know someone is not who they say they are I can't stop them voting; merely ask them the 'prescribed questions', warn them of the consequences and report what has happened. If the person they had claimed to be came in to vote later they wouldn't be able to.

Of course when they conducted a trial with voters requiring ID there was an outcry, with people complaining that they hadn't been able to vote as a result.
