Receiving almost no attention around here, the Copa America Centenario has reached the semi-finals. Brazil did not make the knock out stages after finishing third in their group. Then Mexico were humiliated with a 7-0 thrashing by Chile.

Chile, who won last years Copa America now play Columbia in the semi-finals, while hosts USA will play Argentina

The event is suppose to be a one off. The proper Copa America was played in 2015 which was won by Chile and who will compete in the Confederations Cup. The next edition is in 2019. I've watch a few games on the telly and the attendances haven't been great, plenty of empty seats. Whether the Copa America continues with this format remains t be seen as it would also mean pressure to merge both Americas into one confederation. Apart from USA and Mexico and possibly Costa Rica, the CONCACAF teams are a bit out of their depth against the South American teams and Mexico didn't do that well against Chile. Brazil also scored seven in their group match against Haiti.

Lost all interest in the competition when Japan got knocked out in 99.

In the final Argentina 0-0(2-4 pens) Chile. Messi missed a penalty & then decided to retire from international football.
