Anyone else think these fixtures may be somewhat "arranged " by the T V companies?
Opening day fixtures weekend has Fulham with what will be their biggest game of the season moved to a Friday night, strange how usually games are not moved for tele until some weeks have gone by after fixture release date.
Then we have the "old sleeping giants" game between Wednesday and Villa on the Sunday, after the QPR v Leeds game...funny how already BEFORE the T V companies have allegedly had their discussions that already we have the kick off time of the matches.

So sky have now announced (at 12:00) what their choice of games is for the opening weekend, which co-incidently matches the fixtures moved in the original list...I wonder how they knew?
Stange you might think when they have not even sorted the premier league games out yet which are more important and were out a week ago.
Proof if ever you needed it that the TV companies (sky to be sure) are manipulating things somewhat.

Do you really blame the FL for wanting some of their "bigger" Championship games to be played on the one weekend of the season that the PL isn't playing?

Fixtures will have been released to the media, probably on Tuesday and Sky Sports will have made their match choice for the opening weekend of fixtures the same day. These matches could then be rescheduled prior to general release. This can't be done with the PL because broadcast rights are not held by just one broadcaster. and live games are sold as packages making it more complicated.

I'm sure Newcastle fans are delighted at a Friday night game in West London to open their season.

I imagine Sky knew earlier than yesterday. It's really no big deal that the initial changes were done before the games were released, at least fans know where they stand.
After for your last point, Sky/BT etc never have given a shit.

It's the date of the FA Cup final being the issue. There was only one free Saturday for the L1 final.

Well I'm guessing they didn't finish making the fixtures just before they announced them.

As a media partner, Sky probably have the rights to see the fixtures well before the public (a week, maybe). The clubs will have been given them earlier, too.

For the 3rd season in a row, Peterborough United begin the season away to Rochdale! Can't have happened to often for a team to face the same trip on opening day 3 years in a row.

Also noticed that Portsmouth face midweek trips to both Blackpool and Morecambe, so much for localish midweek games and reducing travelling for fans as was stated by the chap in charge of fixtures on the EFL website last week. Cheltenham to Carlisle is a lovely midweeker as is Morecambe to Barnet & Portsmouth.

League Cup draw also out. Round 1 in week commencing 8 August. Charlton pretty happy with Cheltenham away - pretty sure we've never played there. A rare chance to see the Addicks play somewhere I've already watched City.

Despite Oxford United having been promoted to L1, I did not get too excited by the fixtures. Last season saw me attend the lowest number of their home games since 1995-96, and this trend may continue because (as I have already mentioned elsewhere) I find it more difficult to remember what happened in those home games I did attend as I get older. In fact the only weekend home league game I can guarantee that I will attend in 2016-17 is the final game against Shrewsbury on Sunday 30th April (although Walsall on 31st Dec is also a strong candidate as that is on the Saturday between Xmas and the New Year, which is never a good time to tick non-league grounds.)

Bolton only have a handful of games further than the Midlands, and we've still ended up with midweek away trips to Bristol Rovers, Millwall and Gillingham, not to mention our three away games in August being the aforementioned Bristol Rovers plus AFC Wimbledon and Charlton.

That's because the clubs decided they wanted to keep the local games for weekends to make the most of the potential larger crowds. This was mentioned on here a couple of years ago I think and I've read in the press too. Not a bad idea but it means the League will get stick from all quarters and most people will never know the real deal.

According to our message board, Cheltenham have never played Charlton at any level, even for friendlies. We are hoping to bring Dillon Phillips back to the club for a further loan.
