Trouble on the horizon maybe for Oxford with the squad chosen last night but totally justified with the result. Just thinking about the carry on with Luton last season.

They gave one young lad a sub debut, one player who has had a traumatic two years a game, another who is making a come back after two years out. And a number of players who are on the fringe of the squad a couple again who have only just come back from long term injury. And those who were regulars were tried in slightly different positions, a full back from Saturday was centre half. It seemed to work but they must have been near the "naughty step" with their selection.

The team Leicester put out didn't even include some of their better U21 players and no first team Reserves. Really was no point.

843 to watch Grimsby v Doncaster, less than 10% capacity. With all the team changes it seems that EFL teams are approaching the EFL Trophy with the same contempt as PL take the League Cup, only putting out stronger teams in the latter stages.

Been told this afternoon the rules may have changed on team selection and within reason you can field whoever you like. Which at least means teams can field squad players, those coming back from injury and a few good youngsters.

Apparently the rules are something like

Play any goalkeeper you like and then the ten outfield players, four have to be 'qualified'

Which means have either have had to start previous or next league game.

Or have played 40 first team games in their career, or are on loan from a PL club.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread to report on Oxford United's attendances for the two home games in the competition which they have played so far this season.

v Brighton & HA Reserves on 03/10/2017 - 1,074 (including 64 Brighton fans)

v MK Dons on 07/11/2017 - 1,182 (including 101 from Milton Keynes)

I boycotted the Brighton game in protest against reserve teams being allowed to participate, but I did attend the MK Dons game last night. These two crowds are probably the lowest ever for any competitive first team game at either the Manor or Grenoble Road. The rain last night (which stopped at around kick-off time) may have prevented the crowd from being a bit bigger.

Oxford finished runners-up in their group and will therefore be given an away tie in the next round, unless West Ham are their opponents - in which case there will be another game for me to boycott.

Leicester City are the only U21 team from the Northern half of the draw to get through.

Nice little runout for our promising young players, also doing very well in the PL2.

Grimsby vs Sunderland U21s had a crowd of 248 last night so it's dropped even further.

Whether the EFL will take any notice or not, I don't know, but it would be good to think that in the event of restoring it to League One & League Two clubs only that the competition might be given a shot in the arm and that crowds rise beyond pre-#BTeamBoycott days. Not sure either scenario is likely to happen but you can always hope.

If you look at the Grimsby forum it seems that there is a concerted effort to discourage people from attending games in this competition.
They're not the only ones, but seem to be the most successful at it. They want to make a point.

On the other hand, Lincoln v Everton U21 attracted more than 4000 - maybe the novelty value from a team just promoted and having gained a lot of new fans last season. Grimsby fans not impressed.

If you're going to/been to a Hampshire Premier League match, I'd really appreciate you filling in a questionnaire - available in the Groundhopping/General section, or just PM me for a copy. Thanks.

The Grimsby v Sunderland U21 crowd of 248 included 3 (or 7) Sunderland fans depending on what you read.

I've heard of crowd inflation but ...
