Manchester United v AFC Bournemouth Can't Post or Reply Privately

The above game was originally a delayed kick-off due to a suspect package being found in the stands at Old Trafford, and has now been called off. BBC and Sky are reporting it as "abandoned" but surely a football match can only be abandoned once it has started.

No news yet on whether it will be "postponed", i.e. delayed to a later date, or "cancelled", i.e. left unplayed at the end of the season.

Surely the game will be played. Significant prize money at stake for Bournemouth let alone the implications for United.

If it wasn't for the cash and implications for Utd they could just take a leaf from books of many leagues around these parts and leave it unplayed!

Such a shame for the fans of both clubs who travelled hundreds of miles to be in attendance today for the final game.

you could argue its last day of season in premier league so game should not be re played but Manchester united have far to much power over the premier league, !

Man Utd will not want to play it this week with the Cup final next Saturday.
They can't get into the Champions league now unless they win by a cricket score.
But Southampton have crept into 5th and can get into Europa league.
If the F A cup winners still get into Europe then they won't need to play the match if man Utd win the cup....will they?

im sure most Bournemouth fans will want there team to play full 38 games in premier league in there first season,
sorry if folk have a go at me, but Manchester united will be calling the shots with this and premier league will do anything for them,

It's got nothing whatsoever to do with Man U calling the shots. The game will be rescheduled because this is the Premier League not some amateur league, plus there's European qualification, league positions and prize money still to be played for.

Sky and the PL will be livid at this.

They will decide when the game should be replayed. Probably should be tomorrow or Tue, if they can persuade the police, from a league point of view.
Better for the fans to be after the cup final, since it really only affects 5th/6th place.

Feel sorry for the fans, as everyone else said.

If you're going to/been to a Hampshire Premier League match, I'd really appreciate you filling in a questionnaire - available in the Groundhopping/General section, or just PM me for a copy. Thanks.

I'm not aware that Man U have yet commented on when they want the game played, or whether it's crap, or what Bournemouth's feelings are.

The Premier League have stated that they "will seek to rearrange the fixture as soon as practically possible and will advise fans accordingly."

No it doesn't as there's no evidence that it was anything other than an unattended bag!

It could well turn out to be a massive over reaction.

Man Utd could get the 18 goal swing for top 4 if Bournemouth go on holiday.

Sky News say there are unconfirmed reports the suspect package was a mobile phone with a pipe attached found in toilets.

England has two direct slots in the group games of the Europa League, these go to the FA Cup winners, and the highest league finish.

So, Saints are in Europa League, and will start at Group stage if Man Utd win FA Cup, or if Utd lose to Bournemouth, (otherwise start at 3q)

United are in the Europa League and will start at Group stage if they win FA Cup, or if they get a draw or better against Bournemouth, (lose both and start at 3Q)

West Ham are in the Europa League, (starting at 3Q) if Man Utd win FA Cup

Crystal Palace are in the Europa League (group stage) if they win the FA Cup

I think we can ignore the idea of a 19-0 win for United, which is their requirement for a Champions League place.

Liverpool can add to our European representation by beating Sevilla on Wednesday

The rearranged game should take place prior to the Cup final, Tuesday being the best date but Man Utd won't want to play until after the Cup Final so 25th May seems like the probable date. The match must be played because the start round of Europa League is at stake. If Man Utd win the FA Cup then they start at the group stage and may put out a weaker side for what would become a less important league fixture. If they lose the FA Cup Final then they need a 5th place finish to go straight to the group stage. There is also about £1 million in extra prize money for that extra league place, which is a night out for Rooney but extra welcome funds for Bournemouth.

I'd suggest not making daft statements until the dust has settled on today. The most likely date would be Tuesday next week (25th) and I don't see a problem with that. Quite why you think Man Utd will be deciding the date is a mystery.
I'd also suggest not making half-baked comments about West Ham fans who were taking home pieces of their stadium as souvenirs - it happens regularly when long-standing stadia close down. And your follow-up comment "shows what kind of club West Ham are" says rather more about you that West Ham or any club in fact.
In short, I'd suggest posting a little less shit.

Game will be played on Tues (17th) - at Man Utd's insistence, obviously.
