Bolton Wanderers in trouble Can't Post or Reply Privately

After the astronomical debt hanging over the club was released a couple of weeks ago. Now things have just got a lot worse! The club have received a winding-up petition from the HMRC, for unpaid taxes believed to be in the region of £600k!

If Bolton enter administration now, they would receive a 12 point deduction. This would leave them 16 points from safety but with still more than half the season to go there would still be enough time to save themselves. I know they would be following league rules but it is still wrong that they could save themselves from relegation while giving themselves time to try and resolve their financial position.

Believe me, we could be given another 40 games and there's no chance we'd gain enough points to stay up.

Looks like no money to pay January wages now...

According to the BBC they are in debt to the tune of £172m,
with £2m-plus to the taxman.
Don't think the £67.5k they earned for beating Eastleigh will go far.

Seems like they're in serious doggy doo doo - any other company would
have pulled the shutters down by now.

Could be Brucie Bonus time for the NWCFL next season....

Any truth in the rumour that Eastleigh have offered Bolton their share of the gate receiptsSly

But if they entered administration in April they'd have to finish above the relegation places or start next season on -12pts. Unless they "just" avoided relegation of course, in which case the deduction would see them relegated anyway! But they would start next season on zero pts in that case.

Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

It looks as though the judge is waiting until the end of the January window to see what money Bolton can bring in during their clearance sale. I doubt they will make 172 million but they might make enough money to pay the accountants and lawyers.

Club statement: The clubs third validation order hearing, has been set for Friday 22nd January. The granting of the order would allow the club to take further steps towards resolving the immediate and long term funding issues!

Why do the fans not lob some money in to help out or is that a backwards move.

The overwhelming majority of that debt is owed to owner Eddie Davies. He has said he is willing to write it off, presumably upon the sale of the club. So no-one needs to raise £172m, but someone definitely does need to reach an agreement with Davies to buy the club..and soon. In the meantime, it seems he isn't putting any more money in, which is why the club is now struggling to pay its tax and overheads.

Well the take over has been completed it seems but Lennon lost his job just after the new people came in

Good news is that the overdue money to HMRC has been settled

Andy Townsend has been appointed as a consultant....

If you're going to/been to a Hampshire Premier League match, I'd really appreciate you filling in a questionnaire - available in the Groundhopping/General section, or just PM me for a copy. Thanks.
