On the night of November 14-15 1940 the Luftwaffe launched the most devastating of its bombing raids on Coventry. Other cities may have fared worse later but the destruction on that night of the city's fine old historic centre came to be symbolic of the time.

My late father was on fire watching duty on those nights and one of his most vivid memories was hearing the planes hearing the explosions and seeing the orange sky as Coventry burned. That was from 40 odd miles away.

No idea how many visits Cov got but on returning home one night they flattened St Andrews church in Kirby and damaged all the houses on Church Road. They still talk about it now and even did a book a few years back entitled 'The most bombed village in England'!
