Will the council call it in and put the club under threat of closure with a takeover on the table? Plus with Cardoza saying he will repay the debt i doubt the club are at deaths door at the moment.

And it's costing them money as I understand with the ground as it is they can't get as many away fans in as they used to. The other week they could only give Oxford 900ish tickets and they sold out well in advance of the game, in the past they were given seats in the stand that is now half an uncompleted stand. So even when they have a "big" gate they are only getting 5,000.

I'm not sure a division 4side were ever going to be able to pay £10mill off but calling the debt in because they missed two payments won't help

They were lent 10 million to develop the ground which has not happened and one side is building site. Now they appear to have run out of money. The question is where has the money gone. Nothing to do with out bidding clubs with much higher gates for players or offering higher wages and longer contracts to none playing staff and paying compensation.

It's just the council flexing their muscles to get some of the debt back quickly to cover their own cuts....allegedly!

Haven't really been following this story but it'll be a cold day in hell before any council forces its local football club into liquidation! Be interesting to see how this plays out but I'd expect some kind of deal will end up being done.

The club are still hoping for a late bid to arise.

And now the council are considering loaning up to 250K to Northants CCC because the club 'needs to return its finances to a sustainable position'. If i were a non sport loving person living in that area i'd not be happy with where my council tax money was heading.

Cobblers now issued with a winding-up petition by HMRC which relates to money owed following the collapse of the takeover. It is totally separate to the money the council are after and chairman says he expects the matter to be resolved by the end of next week.

From what little I understand on this matter, the chairman is (allegedly, m'lud) one of the irritatingly many such club officials from the school of shouting, boasting and generally making groundless claims about personal resources and the desire to spend them on a football club.

As with almost all of them, it'll end in tears and some form of AFC Cobblers 15.

Run that "fit and proper persons test" past me again?

So it's now 10 million to the council 3 million to the builders and amount unknown to HMRC. Can't see that the work done comes to 13 million so it looks like some or all of the 10 million has been used for something else

£13m is an awful lot for a fourth division team to have burnt through in a few years, that sort of money spent on the football club wouldn't have gone un-noticed, I don't recall them becoming massive spenders, but may be wrong.

Of course, that then begs the question, who has the money?

Re: [007Dale] Northampton Town [In reply to] Can't Post or

Only a drop in the ocean but they paid Oxford compensation when Chris Wilder went to Northampton as manager, rumour was he was going to leave anyway as there was a breakdown in contract talks. The compensation was certainly rumoured to be a good 5 figure sum.

Also as I said earlier in the thread they are losing out on 400 or 500 fans when they have a large away following as the away section is reduced in size due to on going building work.

John would know more but where does the Coventry sharing come into all this, we presume that must have generated some income for the club even if the Council were getting the lions share.

Presume all the dribs and drabs add up and if you are paying an above average wage bill you could certainly see a 7 figure loss over 2 or 3 years but not a 13 million pound plus one.

Interestingly the BBC report says the builders are owed money by someone other than Northampton Town FC, but whose directors are directors of Northampton Town FC. So where has the money gone to ?

I'm guessing Cobblers fans are going to be learning a lot about shell companies in the next few weeks and months.

According to the fanzine, the Cardozas are also looking to sell their property company, so it looks as though that is in trouble too.
The declared official attendance last night was a good 1,000 less than it should have been.
There is a strange lack of protest at Sixfields and no mention of a 'phoenix' club in the fanzine at all.

Re: [jrev61] Northampton Town [In reply to] Can't Post or

When Oxford played at Northampton in September the Attendance was given as 4,838, Oxford had an away following of 931 which was a sell out they could have sold twice that number if given the tickets as they were sold out quite early in the week and never actually went on general sale. That means for a local derby with a current grudge element Northampton had only 3,907 fans, less the Oxford fans who had tickets in the Northampton part of the ground. That seems very low for a game between teams near the top of the table. So what John is saying does seem to ring true.
