The main issue is that the Championship teams pay better wages than most teams in Scotland. That's why the players come South!

Not sure which of those you want substantiating but a quick search of the web shows Championship average attendances to be double those of the a Scottish Prem. This, plus the relative lack of TV money in Scotland's top flight, surely means Championship clubs are paying much more than SPFL clubs. And, as the OP noted, seven of Scotland's first XI play in the Championship.

Can't think of any other logical reasons why Scottish players move south? To develop as players, perhaps. Nothing else comes to mind, though.

July 1, 2019 to June 30,2020 = 93 / 79 / 14 / inc 4 x 0-0's. (You know my rules) @ 23 / 10 / 2019.
2019/20. Benelux = Bel = 0-0-0-(I(MUI-I)-0-0)-(0-2-1-1)/ Lux = 0-2 / Neth = 0-0-0-(1 - 2) Others France = 0-0 / Germany =0-0-0 / Italy =0-1(Act 2- Frosinone new)./ Iberia = P = 0-0 & S = 0-0.

Re: [dottirofhod] Scotland team [In reply to] Can't Post or

The Premier League seems to have had more of an effect on Scotland than anyone else in that very few Scottish players play in it while 40 years ago many played in the First Division. The two Irelands seemed to have had the same problem but they seem to have turned the corner while Wales seem to always produce one or two World class players every 10 years. But all three for a while seemed to step backwards after the formation of the Premier League or the advent of mega TV money.
The bottom few clubs of the Scottish Premier League are really only as good as Division Four and the Conference, you only have to look at the players who go from those leagues into the Scottish Premier League and vice versa. Which is reflected in the crowds,
Many go on about mediocre foreign imports in the Premier League stopping English talent coming through, in Scotland they seem to have even more mediocre foreign players with even less ability stopping their home grown players coming through.
None of this explains how or why Rangers have run up so many debts while trying to progress through the Scottish League.

I think that's largely correct and it shouldn't come as a surprise. England has approximately 10 times the population of Scotland and you would expect the 10th club in Scotland to approximate the 100th in England if we assume, as it surely is, that footballing ability follows a normal distribution.

For a century Scotland grossly overperformed at club and country level but it has now shifted to a position in Western Europe commensurate with its population,
