Is £20 really too much for a Wembley final?

I wanted Wrexham to win.

Got it in my head that it was £30, shows how much notice i take of such things. The magic RL weekend was mentioned earlier but big difference is you could get tickets for all 8 games at The Etihad a couple of years back for £40, could anyone see the FA doing the pair on the same day at Wembley for under a nifty?

It was £30 on the day, £20 was for the early bird.

Then of course there is the food and drink prices..........oh well I did manage to sneak my own inShocked

Why – real football club v. plaything?

Presumably Mr Quixote had a flutter?

The plaything comment is a bit harsh!

Presumably Mr Quixote had a flutter?

Not me, only from the eyelids of the MILF in Hamilton Hall.....

I've nothing against 'the Villagers' but few outside non-league circles
have ever heard of them, with the stock answer down the pub as to
Wrexham's opponents was 'who the fvck are North Ferriby?'

Wembley should be a show piece end to the season for both Trophy
and Vase finals alike - the former has already been somewhat downsized
by holding it at some unearthly time of year.

In a couple of years time when the new Wembley contract comes into play,
there must be some serious threat as to whether the Vase/Trophy finals
will continue to be played there.

The FA's bean counters still have a large mortgage to consider and surely
they must lose money on the Vase every year and 14.5k at the Trophy meant
that they probably just about broke even.

What I can envisage is the Vase being shunted off to some Prem/FL ground
but it would probably not be done with any thought to the competing sides.

There will be some announcement in January, like they did with the play-offs
a couple of years back when UEFA put Wembley out of bounds and you had
Torquay playing Stevenage at OT, with the attendance struggled to reach five figures.

The Conference final that season was hosted down the road at the 'Council House'
and again, if Luton v AFC Wimbledon had been played say at Arsenal/Tottenham
then I believe that the interest would have been massive.

Don't get me wrong but I love my non-league football but too many live
in this doe-eyed blinkered world thinking it will get back to how it used to be...
that ain't gonna happen with the world's game available almost 24/7 on TV.

Ergo, give me a Bristol Rovers v Grimsby FAT final any day of the week - as long
as it's a Saturday, sensibly priced, well advertised, played in May and with it a crowd
that would threaten the final attendance record - everybody wins.

Re: [DonQuixote] get in there !!!!!!!!! [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

There's something about a David v Goliath final and I thought the Man City v Wigan FA Cup final was the best one of recent years.

I did actually already know where North Ferriby is by virtue of having some distant relatives in Hull but I did hear a few people questioning where it was.

Having the Trophy final before the league season has finished is surely another nail in the coffin but the play offs for a place in the FL have done the most damage, the play off final is far more important.

It would be a shame if the Trophy and Vase finals do get evicted from Wembley but everything has its price nowadays.

Gives a good indication of what North Ferriby's spending SHOULD be compared to the rest.

I'm sure it's been covered elsewhere but can't be arsed to search but
wasn't/isn't Brackley and Oxford City run by people with more money
than sense, who believe that one can make a profit from a football club?

Not in the case of Brackley, who are funded by Alan Leighton, ex-Royal Mail chairman. He does it because he wants to.

Oxford City's president is Florida businessman Thomas Anthony Guerriero. How much money he puts in is up for debate but then OC's success in recent years (before he arrived) was certainly not achieved on their gate money. AC or Oxpete might know. Guerriero certainly made some statements that suggested a lack of understanding of football at this level.

see Hull fans give him the 'Madness' treatment accompanied

Brackley had their budget cut in the summer (now looking at going down), but Oxford are also doing well with small crowds. They have an American owner, looking at turning the name Oxford City into a franchise. Not sure how much income this is generating...
