A bit of a random one this but…

Is anyone aware of the cultural or marketing justifications that led Assam Hallam and Vincent Tan to think adding the name ‘Tigers’ and ‘Dragons’ to their respective club names would offer more global appeal? A cursory gland at clubs in the Thai, Malaysian and Singapore leagues for example suggest many clubs have English suffixes (United, Rovers etc) so I’m puzzled where this logic stems from.

Do Animals have some form of revered standing in the Far East or other parts of the world, other than when they are being eaten?
